engine trade

hello everyone,
i was hoping someone could provide some info for me. Iknow quite little about cars, so any help is greatly appreciated. i own a 1997 f150 xl regular cab. The motor in the truck is blown, and i would like to be able to find out if it is possible to drop a lightning motor in there. I have no idea what sort of modifications would have to be made. the rear end suspension was beefed up for towing purposes, and everything else is stock. I also dont really have a clue as to what the cost of anyhing would be, so any info on that would be great too.
thank you very much
steve

not much help

this won't help you much but...I've heard of a few people that have done that before....but i also heard that it wasnt easy at all. I think you should just find a pickup with the 5.4 in it if you dont want to spend the money on a lightning. This probably won't help you but good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Thumbs up

Anything is possible if you really want to do it. You sould be able to get a motor from the bone-yard. Make sure you get everything, including computer and all harnesses. You will need help if your mechanically declined. It isn't the easiest job, but not impossible. Remember that your swapping motors from one f150 to another your not trying to put the motor in a focus, so everything will bolt up. Good luck.

You might try posting in the Superchargers and Turbochargers section. I've read some of their posts about Lightning crate engines. They probably have an idea of what all you need and how much it'll cost.

Steve

it is going to cost about 10,000.00 counting the lightning crate engine and you have to be able to remove the complete dash and replace the main wire harness to everything in the truck, including all the fuse box the ignition, speedometer, light switch among other things in the cab. you have to change out all wire harnesses on the truck, including the fuel tank to replace the single pump with the dual pump. if you can't do this yourself it is going to cost you big time, but if you are really ready to do this like i did in my 97 supercab then shoot me a e-mail and i will give you everything you need on your list to do the swap. the reason you have to change all the wiring i because from 99 the changed all wiring and all voltage on acc. let alone changing to the lightning which has much more sensors and acc. you must change the transmisson and have the drive shaft cut unless you have a shortbed single cab. my e-mail suns@hargray.com
