Snow Problem
Lastnight, we got 10+ inches of snow, so today my brother and I ttok the day off from work and decided to go play in the snow. He has a 88 Bronco, and me in my 99 F150. we decided to go to nearby fields where construction crews have been grooming the field for development. All was going good and fun. Plowing through drifts and nothing going wrong. At first I could tell that my brakes were starting to freeze up. Not a problem. Then it was starting to feel like I had lack of power. Normally, I have no problem spinning my tires, expecially in snow. Not only were my tires rotating slow, my engine, seemed like it was suck in a higher gear, only getting low rpms. We decided to call it quits at this time. Once I got on the Icy, street, I put it in 2wd, and stepped on the gas. Nothing. rpms topped at 3500, and tires were struggling to move. Got back home at a top speed of 30mph. Started pondering what might of happened. Was leaning towards, killed the gears in the rear axel. But wasn;t sure. Then my brother talked to a friend who said that It could be that the engine was strugling to get air. So I went out and opened the hood, and All ou could see was White snow and Ice. I couldn;t get my air filter out to see if it was clogged. I am just not sure what happeden and why It is doing this, Have to wait until tomarrow to see, It is just bad that it is suppossed to be colder. Any info, or and ideas of what it might be, Please let me know.....

So your engine compartment is all packed with snow? Notice you list a 3" body lift. Has this raised the wheel wells up off the frame, leaving a big slot for snow to churn in? Especially since you're probably sliding sidways while turning, ramming the snow in. How about up front, by the bumper? Same effect there?
I'd rather drive a Bronco in those conditions. Better weight distribution, built for it.

I noticed that you're from Omaha too. That snow we got was pretty light and fluffy due to the extremely cold temps.
It's possible that your air filter is plugged with snow.
Good luck.

Don't forget, unless you have put on an FIPK or done some other airbox mod, the opening is in the wheel well. Maybe snow and ice made it into the opening, but not all the way into the filter. Just my 2 cents.

wemjr, Your 2 cents was right on. I went to the carwash, and sprayed away most of the snow, then I let the warm water run onto the ait filter housing( the filter was frowen in) after a bit, I took the housing apart and pulled the filter out. A solid white cylinder. That Filter was Cram-packed with snow. Somehow, only the filter had snow on it, none in the intake or anywhere before. I just took the snow off, and dusted it good, to clean mojority of snow off, Put it back together and It ran perfect again. Thank God, it was only that. Thanks for the help guys.

Hey Great White, I think I may have seen you around town. Do live around the Maple/Fort area of Omaha? Which development did you take your little driftbusting trip? Good to hear you didn't hurt your truck.

Yes I do, I live right between the two, right next to the interstate. I went to the area around 90th and Sorenson, in Irvington. There were tons of drifts. I'm ready to go "driftbusting" again.
