Question cold weather?

Okay guys, I need some help. The last couple of mornings it has been between 10 and 15 degrees when I started my truck in the morning. [Unfortunately it has been sitting outside the garage because I've been doing some work on a '69 Mustang. ] Anyway, both mornings the truck turned over fine, but then it did not idle up, it just died. I had to rev it up pretty high (about 3000rpm) to keep it running. It has never done this before. My Dad suggested bad gas, or possibly water in the gas. What do you thing? Any suggestions? Also, I have also noticed the rough idle, and occasional clattering when accelerating hard up hills, could all this be related? I have had Ford check out the problem also, but they have not found anything. I have thought that maybe a SuperChip would solve this, what do ya think? Sorry this is long, but thanks for your help in advance.

try adding a bottle of HEET to a tank of fuel. if there is water in your system that should take care of it. have to do this almost every winter here in wis. to keep water in fuel from freezing.
also could be bad gas as your dad suggested. i got a full tank of crappy gas last year on my way home from fla. truck ran horrible for almost three tanks until the crap cleaned out.
good luck

lovemy4x4,

Has the fuel filter ever been changed?
Use an additive to remove any water but check the filter.

Red face

I changed my fuel filter about a 1 1/2 years ago, or approx. 18-20K miles, it shouldn't need to be changed again already, should it? I added some stuff to the gas. It was not HEET, because we were all out of that at home, but it was similar. Hopefully I will have better luck tomorrow morning-especially since we are getting an ice storm right now.

Talking

lovemy4x4,
I didn't really have an opinion on your gas question; if I had to guess, I'd say you probably had some water in your tank. What I was commenting on was the occupant of your garage. I also have a '69 Mustang, specifically an R-code 428CJ Mach 1, 4 spd. It also gets to reside under my carport (sure wish I had a garage, these temps are getting rough). It's my project; it hasn't moved in probably a year. It needs some carb tuning right now, mechanically speaking, and I've got the dash out of it to patch a pesky water leak if I can find it. I just realized something else from your sig; we both have '97 SC Lariats, white over tan. Mine's a 4x2 styleside, though.

I didn't mean to totally get away from your topic; I just thought I'd converse with a fellow '69 'stang and '97 F150 fan. I also got my wife a '99 V6 Mustang coupe, Chrome Yellow auto. If you'd like to talk Mustangs, or F150's, shoot me a line at eric-karen@onemain.com. Good luck with the gas problem. Later!
