Oil Change documentation for self maintenance.

I was just wondering what type of documentation is needed for doing your own oil changes and other light maintenance. I recently purchased an F-150 and would like to do my own oil changes and lubrication. That is the only way that I can think of that I would know the job was done right. Any advice would be appreciated . Other than keeping the receipts and keeping a log are there any other recommendations?

I'm not under warranty, but i always write down when i did the maintenance and what the mileage was, and when the next service would be, just for my own reference. Since you're still under warranty, i'd keep the receipts too. I'm not sure what else you can do

Thumbs up ...just a guess, but

...I think saving your receipts and documenting the mileage at which the maintenance was performed is the way to go. If you are still in warranty, at least having records will demonstrate that you have a routine or system, even if it's not a 3rd party doing the work. Judges like that sort of stuff. Also, try using the "Ownersite" advertised here to track your parts and maintenance; easy to do and you have the fancy printouts available if you need them.

If you have your owners manual packet in the glove box there should be a scheduled maintenance booklet with places to record what you do.

Good luck

I keep track of the maintenance on my truck, in my "Planner".
The planner that I use all day at work...
I keep track of all maintenance, and repairs that I make.

All the manufacturers accept dated receipts for sufficient quantities of oil and filters as proof along with your checking and filling in the blanks in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide.

box tops

I've been keeping the Motorcraft Filter box tops and writing the date and the milage of the change on them. I know it's not "indisputable proof" but neither is a receipt form a lube shop.

I keep a hard copy and electronic copy of my oil changes and maintenance records.
I just made one in Excel and keep it in several places.
