Exhausting Solved
Yeah, I know this should go to the exhaust section, but I honestly think it deserves the extra exposure it would get here.
For months I read all the postings on which type of aftermarket or custom exhaust to go with, and its been a long haul. So many considerations; sound, power, mileage, space, and of course looks.
It started with a popular catback system, single in twin 2.5" out, lightning style. Yeah, right. It looked good, sounded ok, lost tons of bottom end power, and mileage went to sheeit. I installed the K&N Gen II and Superchip in an attempt to get some power back. It helped a little, but not enough.
Second try; 600 bucks, all new everything. 2.5" all the way, mandrel bent with high flow cats and a small 2 in, 2 out magnaflow single race type muffler, still lightning style, with twin 3" by 12" slash cut tips. It looked great, sounded awesome, still lost my bottom end power but as the rpm went up, so did the power. Mileage was still the pits, and the drone sounded like a chainsaw in the back seat. Couldn't hack it.
Round three; replaced the magnaflow with a no name turbo 2 in, 2 out, still in 2.5", and switched to 3.5" slash cut tips. Still lightning style. Drone was louder, power was even lower, and it sounded like a pair of fart can sporting toyotas drag racing in my back seat.
Final round; told the shop owner about the problems, and arranged a muffler swap. He gently yanked out the cheapola turbo, and installed a very long magnaflow. Same configuration, 2 in, 2 out, 2.5" all the way except for the stainless 3.5" by 12" tips. On the start up, she seemed a little quiet. On the test drive she got her first tire smoking. Even left a mark in second, (thanks to Superchip). Looks are still great, sound is pleasant, not loud, power seems tenfold, and the drone is gone. You can actually hear the K&N roar in plesant harmony with the exhaust now. Haven't had time to check the mileage yet, but the more fun I have driving it, the less I seem to care.
Oh well, just thought I would pass the poop, maybe save someone some money and ulcers.
dats jus my spearence, an ahh no its tru.
