under drive pulleys
Has anyone installed some, how did they work, where did you get them and how much...
would like to try some on my 5.4 if worth the money to go along with the K & N charger kit i installed that really helped out

I wouldn't recommend these. They are smaller than stock for less engine strain, but they also cause your components to spin slower than usual. Example, your alternator, it will not spin fast enough to send amps to your battery, thus draining it slowly. Power steering pump, may not build up enough hydraulic pressure at speeds that you need the extra assistance. Clutch fan, may not spin fast enough to cool engine properly. I have had many friends try them...they went through a few batteries or so, maybe the occasional overheating, then they went back to stock size, but used billet aluminum so they at least looked good.

I have had them on my 4.6L 4X4 since Feb and no problems what so ever. My battery has not gone dead, my power steering still works and my arm hasn't fallen off. I have the ASP's which is a two piece set and are a good quality. One thing to note is I wouldn't use them if you do serious towing or hauling. The ASP's are designed for the 4.6L and not the 5.4L. I remember a former member posting a tight clearance for the water pump pulley on the head.

HI!... TERRY H : I also have the ASP "POWER PULLEYS". It is also the 2 peice set. I would not suggest getting the 3 peice set because it has a alternator pulley involved.This will cause charging problems. I have had the ASP kit now for about 8 months now and have not had ANY problems what so ever. I have the 5.4 engine and the only modification you need to do so that the ASP kit will work, is to grind down a small threaded GAUSETT that protrudes from the aluminum front timing chain cover. I removed mine with a 4 inch disc grinder with a "ZIP" blade. It took less than 25 seconds to remove. The reason for removing the GAUSETT is that the new ASP water pump pulley is considerly bigger in diameter and will slightly rub on it. Don't worry about grinding this GAUSETT off, because it does'nt affect anything on our engines. It is only there for a IDELER pulley on the LIGHTNING and is useless for us NON-LIGHTNING guys. The two peice pully set is good for about 8-10H.P at the rear wheels. I have towed with these pulleys (almost 9000lbs!) and have never had a problem. As you can see from my SIG, I also to a ton of drag racing and have never had any ILL effects. After this mod you might want to consider removing the clutch fan and installing two 16 inch electric fans. My engine temp is a hell of a lot lower now than with the stock clutch fan and with the weather like it is right now here in WINDSOR, the fans never come on hardly. Hope this helps you out TERRY.
