Choking itself out
Have 1990 F-150 4x4 5.0 EFI seems to be recieving too much gas. Have replaced fuel filter had Ignition control module checked, new distributor cap and rotor button. please help!
Hate to say this, but fuel injectors don't last forever. They could be worn out and just might be spitting out too much fuel. Get them checked by a mechanic who can remove them, clean them, and test them on a machine that's designed to test injectors.
If you think that its putting too much gas in, a Fuel Pressure check would be worthwhile. There is a gauge attachment fitting on the fuel rail on top of the engine for this purpose. If its way high, the computer may have cranked down the injectors to minimum ON time, and that could still be too much gas at low RPM if rail pressure is high. High rail pressure is caused by a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (on the fuel rail), plugged/restricted fuel return line to the tank, etc. Too expensive to just replace parts, should troubleshoot down to what is really wrong.
I heard once that when your injectors get dirty, they don't get plugged up,they actually get stuck open. This could be causing an over rich condition also. You also could try replacing the O2 sensor. My 84 Ranger had a bad one and it once actually used a Half tank of
gas to go 51 Miles!! It would drive fine for a while, then would start sputtering and wheezing and have absolutely no power.
It would shake like a paint mixer and die.

Hey MonsterMudder..I'm with Granpa on checking your line pressure/fuel system. If you're gonna remove them, nothing really hard, just time consuming. And if you have someone else do it, like a shop, it'll be some $$, plus to bench test each injector will add up to some $$ also. And to say the hell with it and buy new injectors and install them will add $$ also. I think they run about $45-60 each and X 8 of them is money I could put somewhere else. Thoroughly check your fuel system and the electrical monitors before deciding it is the injectors themselves. I made the same mistake earlier this year, but in the process of removing the injectors, I found the true problem, which was an intake leak. Hope this helps....Les

I had a similar problem on a 94' 4.9L F-150 with dual fuel tanks.
One of the fuel pump valve did not close all of the way causing fuel to go a bunch of different places.
Fuel got pushed through the fuel tank vent line into the vapor canister. Then, the vacuum line from the canister to the intake manifold started sucking and dumping gas into the manifold causing an overly-rich fuel/air mixture. This resulted in stalling and flooding.
I never would have believed it if I didn't see it for myself.
Good luck.
