Post New MAF's

I was doing some research on MAF's recently, and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for replacing the OEM one.

Is it a good mod for HP and MPGs? I know it's not cheap by any means..

Anyone replaced theirs? With what brand/model?

Thanks,
Dean

HI Dean,

Going to an aftermarket MAF is not a good investment unless you have a supercharger installed, we have found from dyno testing on these vehicles.

Until the engine is mechanically modified to the point that it can literally out-strip the flow capacity of your stock MAF, you won't see appreciable power gains.

Another point is that aftermarket MAF's usually cause the Air/Fuel mixture to go lean, and that needs to be compensated for with a custom program, although the manufactuers of those MAF's have always said that no, you don't need to change anything in the program. All too often that is not correct as we do the real-time A/F measurements and see what they do. They can lean out the A/F ratios by as much as 2 full points, and while that can add a bit of power, it's not safe to run like that, so the program needs to be compensated. And once you do that, there is no power gain on a basically stock engine from a larger MAF.

Now on modified engiens, especially with a supercharger, then sure, you cna get nice gains from larger MAF's, so they certainly have their place and purpose, it's just not on basically stock engines, that's all.

There are few exceptions, one of which is the 1996-199 Mustang Cobra DOHC 4.6, as that motor can make more power with a larger MAF & upping the rev limiter, but that is a rather unusual case.

There are *plenty* of other mods that are far more worthwhile you can do to your vehicle.

Good luck!
