power steering leak
power steering leak
Has anyone had the pressure line of the power steering pump leak? I was changing the oil Satuday and found that line leaking and spraying all over the oil filter area and the pump. I tried to tigther the fitting but couldnt get to it real well but it seamed tight. The thing is even though it was tight the hose is able to pivot in the fitting, is that normal? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Had the same problem in my 2001 f-150 at 5000 miles. The lines were re-torqued on my first visit. 1000 miles later we started leaking again! My next visit the entire pump assembly was replaced (lines and all). No problems since. Insist on a pump replacement from the start...save everyone time and $.

Power Steering pump re-placed 6000
All gaskets replaced at 7951 - due to oil leak on pass side head.
Almost 2000 trouble-free miles since

MIne nas been leaking for a long time now, but the leak is so small I have not cared to fix it yet, and I have already checked to see if the line is tight, and it is, I suppose after 110, 657 miles it is allowed to, and I am happy that only the PS Line and the #4 coil cap are the only problems after this many miles...you wouldnt find a CHEV-EE or a DODGE that last like a FORD.
Oh well I figure when I decide to detail my motor I will replace the hose and stop the leak.....too bad warrantys dont last to 150k... lol

I was surprised they didnt just change the pressure line, because the leak appeard right at the fitting. They said it was the pump that was causing the problem so I had to agree, they are supposed to be the experts ( I think??? lol I wonder sometimes). Anyhow I picked it up last night and all seems well at the moment, I will give it a week or two and check it again. The only thing I was a little bummed about was I noticed the part on the PO was a remanufactured pump, why cant they give you a new one under warranty?? :-( Oh well.
