Seriously though, while highway driving is NOT 65-70 mph in the tests, it's not 35-45 either. Should be around 45-55, and really closer to 55.

highways are 35-45
EXPRESSWAYS are 50mph+
remember, highways are what most people call "surface streets"
Daffy's Fuel Mileage
Daffy,
Try different brands of gas, until you find the one with the best mileage. I have owned 3 new Ford Trucks, and all 3 have always gotten 2 mpg less, City/HiWay, than what was on fuel estimation, on my MSRP window sticker. (15/19)
Good Luck... Your not alone...
Best City... 14.1 mpg (average... 13 mpg)
Best HiWay... 21 mpg @ 75 mph (average... 17 mpg)
Best mileage was received w/ Ford 5w20 oil, and less than 5k miles on the truck.

(19 k miles, as of 15 Feb)

I got 2001 Supercrew 5.4 2WD and It rarely goes above the average 14 mpg on Highway. I wonder what kind of mileage the 2003 models or whenever ford is going to come up with the higher HP 5.4 on reg F150's. Maybe 9 City, 13 Hwy.
I have a Supercrew with a standard 4.6. An imperial gallon is 20% larger than a US gallon, and I get an average of 20 mpg.
I have logged mileage/fuel on a spread sheet since day 1, so this is very accurate. Most of my miles are on the motorway with the cruise set at 90.

I was getting up to 305 miles when the low fuel light would come on. Then when filling up the tank, it would take about 22 gallons. I believe the tank holds 24.5 gallons. I have a 3.73 rear, OFF Road package, 4X4 Supercab Flareside '99 5.4L
Now I get approx. 270-280 miles @ the 22 gallons. I don't know if that is the proper way to judge mileage??? I drive mostly highway, 60-72 mph. My mileage was somewhat better for a while last year after a speeding ticket I got, lol. I also do set my cruise now @ 72 mph when on the 65 mph freeways. I run Mobil 1 5w30, K&N air filter, motorcraft oil filters. I also burn about 1 qt. of oil between 5K oil changes. The dealer said that was good for synthetic. I have 31K miles now. Just paid $292 for the 30K service.(Tranny oil & filter changed-also coolant, transaxle fluid, fuel filter, rotated tires, etc.) How often do you change the PVC?? Any comments? questions?
P.S. I too hear a ripping sound when starting up in very cold weather.

I'm going on trip tomorrow, 550 mi one way.
The best I've ever got is 19.5 mpg.
I don't expect to do better on the way up however, coming back I'll be in no hurry and will drive the speedlimit in an attempt to break the 20 mpg barrier.
My low-fuel light usually comes on between 350-365 miles.
My record, till the low-light came on was 397.2 miles.
It seems silly now that I was so upset I didn't make it to 400.
(but I hope to break that one too)
