Ordering new - Can I do 4.6 w/ LSD?

I just ordered a 2002 F150 4x4 S/C, 8'bed w/ the 4.6. The dealer told me that he cannot order the 4.6 w/ the 3.55 LSD.

(The ford website let's me put together a package w/ this option configuration.)

Dealer says their computer only lets me get the 5.4 w/ the 3.55 LSD.

Anyone able to order this combo?

Talking

Just print out the Web Page print out and show it to the dealer.

If you've already ordered, then I guess you may be SOL, but I never heard of you not being able to get the LS with the 4.6

(Should have just got the 5.4 anyway....... ) I'm just kidding, but I'm biased anyway..............

Your dealer is misinformed. i.e., he's an idiot.

Most of the guys here with the 4.6L engine also have the 3.55 LS rear.

Call the dealer back and put in a change order. Otherwise, cancel the order.

All,

Thanks for your replies. I called my salesman back, and left him a voicemail. I said I wanted him to double and triple check to see if they could get the LSD w/ the 4.6 and that I'd be pretty upset if I found out I could actually get it later.

He called me back in an hour and said that they tried a number of different combinations of packages on the computer, and got the Limited Slip if I chose the 17" wheels (which were a no-cost extra).

So I got the LSD, and 17" wheels! This is looking like it'll be a great owners group. Thanks again.

Looking forward to my new truck...

could be that they already had a truck with those specs on a lot nearby...

the other problem is sales reps that do not know all the details of the product they are selling...

sometimes you just have to fight to get what you know you are capable of getting on the truck.

I agree. That truck is one that is already around, but that's not a bad thing............... You still get the truck you want with the options you want. Nothing wrong with that.

Good Luck with the NEW ride and Welcome aboard

It's definitely sounding like the salesman is giving you a line on ordering the truck. It sounds like they're ordering the truck from another dealer instead of from the factory. If they were ordering from the factory, there would not be a problem in getting the truck you wanted.

Try asking the salesman for the "build date" of the truck you're ordering. If he says he doesn't have that info, keep calling him every few days asking for the VIN and build date and delivery date so you can compare it to the truck you get. This information is not anything unusual for them to get, so they should be willing to get it for you.

The constant calling also makes sure they don't use your truck for a demonstrator when it comes in.

Strange. I can't figure out a reason for them to try to pull one over on me. I am doing an X-Plan purchase, and there's no incentive for him to haggle, or try to swap for another one. He's been no-pressure, and seemed straight-up and accomodating the whole time. (It took about 1.5 weeks for me to decide to buy.)

I originally agreed to let him try to find one from another dealer in a 4-state area with the options & color I wanted, and gave me a list of the ones that were close that I might be willing to change options on. Thus we did try the "other dealer" route.

I eventually decided I want my exact options, and we agreed to a factory order.

So I wonder if anyone else has been able to order one w/ the 4.6, LS, and 16" wheels? I didn't get the offroad package, or anything, so maybe others did?

He said he'd be calling me when he found out the approximate delivery date and give me regular updates as soon as he finds out.

Either way, I'll find out the build-date, and verify the mileage on delivery. It can't hurt. I bought a turbo Probe from this dealer 12 years ago and they've been known as being decent for sales & service.

I had a '99 with the 4.6 and had the LS, 17" wheels. My brother has a '00 4.2 and also has the LS with 16" wheels. The LS is an option on every F-150. The salesman obviously has no clue.

I give up...

I went there today, so they could update the order form to add the LS (and free 17" wheels). This time, I was dealing with the sales manager because my salesman was busy. He entered everything on my list in and asked me to verify the order. There it was: 4.6, LS, 16" wheels.

When I questioned him on it, he said there's no such limitation so I kept it w/ the 16" wheels and hoped for the best. I'm too tired to care anymore. They just better get the order right...

(I hope their service department is more knowledgeable than their sales force.)

Thanks again to everyone for the responses!

In case anyone cares, here's the specs:
F150 XLT Supercab 4x4
Silver Clearcoat Metallic w/ Medium Graphite Interior
8' bed
4.6L
Cloth Captains Chairs w/ center console
Power Drivers seat
Heated Seats
Electric shift-on-the-fly 4wd selector
Class III towing package
Skid Plates
Sliding Rear window
Stereo CD - Delete
Oh yeah, one more thing.... 3.55 w/ Limited Slip Differential

That's good news. You'll get better performance with the 16" wheels.

They didn't bother to tell you that you can't get heated seats with the 8' bed?

I agree, most dealers don't know squat. It really shouldn't be rocket science for them to order a truck.
