Post Door crack and piston clap

Heard so many problems with the F150. Wondering if 2000-2001 models are effected by the same problems as the 97-99?? Door crack and piston clap. Still undecided to purchase a Ford... Any info would be great from owners of Y2K Thanks..

MY 2000 F150 5.4L 4X4 HAS BEEN A FINE
TRUCK SO FAR HOWEVER I DO HAVE THE COLD
START KNOCK WHICH HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED
BY A DEALER BUT APPEARS TO BE PS FROM ALL
INDICATIONS, I CERTAINLY WASNT EXPECTING
THIS WITH ONLY 12,000 MILES BUT AS THEY
SAY STUFF HAPPENS. ENGINE BUILD DATE WAS
10/00 I HAD HEARD THE PS PROBLEM WAS FIXED
BEFORE THIS DATE BUT APPEARS IT WASNT.
AS FOR DOOR CRACKS NONE SO FAR.
OTHER THAN THE KNOCK I REALLY LIKE THE
TRUCK TO THIS POINT.
GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER YOU GET.

Thumbs up

I agree with FarmBoy. There are more of these trucks on the road than any other make. Take a look at reliability statistics for comparable trucks at Carpoint.com. Chevy and Dodge problems far outweigh Ford. Compare statistics on comparable vehicles in any class, and you will generally find Ford to be more reliable. My 99 F150 with a 4.6 has no PS or Door cracks with over 12,000 miles.

Kt..

My last F-150 had an engine build date of 10/4/00...yikes! Sorry to hear about your problem..and I also thought the problem was 'fixed'.

I also agree..so far..the F-150 has been one of the best vehicles I have owned (aside from the paint problem in my last one (10/2000 build). That is saying a good deal since I have mostly owned Jap/German cars.

I had a 97 and have a 2000. 80K on the 97 before I sold it over a year ago, and now 32K on my 2000. No PS in either, and no door cracks in either. I think the PS problem is overblown. I certainly would not seem so if I had it I'm sure, but we need to remember that there are millions of these trucks on the road.

I have done my own little survey with the cracks though, and it seems that roughly 50-70 percent of the 97-99 trucks have the crack either on one or both doors. Look around in parking lots. I guarantee if there are more than one F150 there one of the doors will have the crack.

All that being said these 2 trucks have been the best vehicles I have owned in my life. Neither have let me down once. Neither have ever been in for any repairs at all.
