which oil filter do you use???
GDlawyer,
I get mine from a local distributer here in Raleigh. There are a few speed shops around here that carry it also. It tends to be a bit more pricey from the speed shops though. What I did originally was logged on to LE's web site, www.le-inc.com. I called the contact number they listed and they put me on to the distributer in my area. As I've said before, it's a little tough to find but well worth the extra effort.

Needs one more door.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO REMEMBER THAT THE WARANTY FOR OUR TRUCKS STATES THAT WE MUST USE FACTORY APPROVED FILTERS ON OUR TRUCKS AND AS FAR AS I KNOW THE MOTORCRAFT FILTER IS THE ONLY APPROVED ONE. THEY CAN BE FOUND AT WALMART AND MOST PARTS HOUSE'S.
GDlawyer,
Yep, that was me.
I know there are other good oils that will work just fine. Some of them I have had no personal experience with. I can't comment on what I don't know. When we were racing I had the privilage of seeing first hand the difference a great oil can make. The environment our oil was forced to run in was extremely abusive. Time and again our parts came out looking good as new. I also had the privilage of seeing some of our competitor's parts when they had their engines and transmissions apart. Most of them looked well worn. Now, I realize there can be a number of contributing factors that would result in parts wear and failure. But my findings were confirmed when the fellow that set up our transmissions told us he had never gotten one of his transmissions back that looked that good. He also attributed that to the lube. He had set up many of the same type of transmissions in the same manner and had customers using several different brands of lube. Ours obviously looked noticeably different. Enough to call and ask what kind of lube we were running. What else can be said?

Oops -- originally posted Pure One - I meant Mobil 1 - nearly $10 here in the 'Zoo.
I also add a magnet to all drain plugs (pull the magnet out of a pocket screw-driver -- drill a blind hole in the drain plug -- and stake it in by adding three dimples around the magnet to wedge it in) so that I can see how much iron/steel is not being caught by my filter.
Cylinder wall and chain and camshaft wear (unfortunately, bearings don't get caught on magnets) shows up as 'fuzz' on the magnet.
Absence of 'fuzz' will make you feel really good -- and is easier to judge than trying to cut apart an oily filter.

Use Fram Tough Gaurd with anit drain back valve. And Havoline 20W-50. Dad has used Fram and Havoline for yrs and his 89 F150 just turned 350,000 miles. The anit drian back is the way to go cause i get instant pressure and no noise...before the drainback I was getting some noise, so I switched at 6000 miles....quiet now

I use Valvoline 10W30 and Wix, Purolater or Motorcraft filters, whichever is on sale. I had been a religious user of Fram until I had problems with valve clatter on startup with my 2000 5.4L because of Fram's piece of sh#t anti drainback valve. The local Discount Auto Parts has filter cutaways of every major brand and to look at the Fram would make you sick. A real shoddy filter.
originally posted pure 1 filter i was mistaken its mobil 1 filter that i use and its 9.00 here in fl....

Again many thanks to you all. I am going to go with the motorcraft filter for now (that is, when I get my truck!!! 8-) and use a synthetic when the time comes for a change.
I am going to use the new 820s filter as it has a new silicone anti-drainback valve. I have bought one and it seems like a very good quality filter. No more frams for me in any of my rigs!!!
Funny, only place you can get a motorcraft around here--besides the ford dlr--is walmart!
and the only other place with a wide variety of filters, brand-wise, is Kmart!!!!
Nobody around here (that I have seen) carries purolator, and only walmart carries mobil 1 filters.

Mobil 1 5w-30 sythetic and Mobil 1 filter. There's a report on the net (I've lost the address) that tested every filter on the market and Mobil 1 won hands down. Tested filtering capability, pressure strength and several other catagories. It's a long report and took forever to download on my old 266mgz but was very interesting reading. Anyway, that's all my baby gets now.

I use the Amsoil SDF-15 and BE-100 on my dual-bypass system, and the Series 2000 0w-30 from Amsoil as well.. Stuff is the nuts...
Omega5,
Hmmm, I would look into your filter data again, and watch for the marketing jive as well. Mobil makes a fine filter that I would be happy with on any vehicle I have, and is the filter that I recommend to people for ease of over-the-counter purchasing. But we have to be careful of the word 'best'. What was the goal of the test? Who sponsored the test?? All these things get factored in.
If a Hastings filter provides 95% of the protection that a Mobil 1 filter does, but costs less than half as much, does that still make the Mobil 1 the 'best'??
Everything is application based I've noticied, and we have to be careful as to which application we're referring to....
Just some thoughts.
