the service guy told me that he is talking to ford about the problem. He said that he has never seen or heard of the problem until i showed him the truck and all the print outs from the archives. So he is pushing Ford to let them put a new motor in it so it can just be fixed right the first time. So i am waiting now.

I just took my truck in for an oil leak and they are replacing the head gaskets. They hadn't heard about any problems with the 5.4 and an oil leak.

I have a 99 F150 5.4 and I had the same problem for the first year. I could smell the burning but could find no signs of a leak. They replaced my gasket and I have had no problems since.

I got my truck back yesterday! They replaced the head gasket, all of the head bolts, oil, filter and coolant! I'm surprised I didn't get charged for the fluids or the waste disposal, but the grand total was $0. They did a fantastic job, I just hope it lasts. Time to go and put everything back on I took off before I took it to the dealer!

How did you manage to get services for free? I've been told it could cost me as much as $495. Was your work done under any special program etc??
Thanks

I had the same problem and mine went out at 21k and they did the fix and then went out at 39k and they told me that I would have to pay for it $1400.00 of work to a 99 truck I told them where to go and we fought back in forth for over a week and they would not move an inch so I went to get the truck and I went the same night and I traded it off on a 2001 Ranger Edge (details below) I love my new truck...it is not a f150but atleast it is a ford truck....

Question

update
well i talked to the service guy at ford, and he told me that Ford has told them to dismantle the top side of the motor and measure the block. The service guy and the technician that is working on the truck both told me that doing that is a waste of time. This dealership is really wanting to just put a new motor into the truck so i am hoping that is what they will get to do.

so until i get my truck back i am going to continue ragging the hell out of the Focus that they gave me to drive
hahahahaha

Thumbs up

The dealer I go to has fantastic customer service! I told them what the problem was and they fixed it, no questions. The truck only has 16000 miles on it and believe it or not I didn't even buy it there! Although I did purchase a 35th Anniversary T-Bird SC in '90 from them (and still have it).

Update

well the service guy at ford has said that they have ordered a remanufactured engine from Ford. He said that it will take about a week to get it here, and about 2-3 days to install it, since they already have half of my motor taken apart. So I will have to wait and see.

well the guy at Ford told me that they could not find any remanufactured motors so ford gave them a new engine off the production line to put in my truck. I stopped off yesterday and they almost had the engine completely installed.

Is there any way that i can tell if the motor is new or rebuilt?????
