Post Piston Slap Problems

About six weeks ago I took my 99 F150 5.4 to the dealer and had it diagnosed with piston slap (thanks to all here for pointing out the problem). After waiting for the engine to come in, it took the dealer (Northpoint Ford in Roswell, Georgia) two weeks to replace the engine, turn signal mirrors and one other minor thing. Not once did I receive a phone call letting me know what the status of the repairs were. I ahd to call them. I was told by two of the service reps that I would receive a new engine, since my vehicle is a 99 model. That is consistent with what others have received based on what I have read here. However, when I picked up the vehicle, the repair order stated that the engine was a remanufactured one. When I asked the service rep about it, he said that Ford has never replaced the engines with new ones, only remanufactured ones. When I explained to him that others had new engines replaced (based on others who have had the same problem and shared their experiences on F150 Online), he said that perhaps they "were told that they received new engines when they were remanufactured ones". I was furious. This guy did not seem to care. When I told him that two of his service reps, one an assistant service manager (both of these guys are no longer at this dealership..convenient isn't it) that I would receive a new engine, all he did was applogize and said they were mistaken. That really got me P***** off. He even stated that they would put my old engine back in if I was not happy with the remanufactured one. I plan on calling Ford today and discussing this with them. However, in the meantime I would like some input from the people that have received engine replacements, new or remanufactured. Did you receive something in writing that said you received a new engine? Has anyone experienced something like this? Does anyone know of anyone that I can call at Ford to resolve this problem? Is this guy just BSing me? Does anyone know about the quality and reliability of the remanufactured engines? If I have to keep the engine, so be it, but I do not intend on sitting back and letting this go by without checking it out. Many thanks in advance for input from the folks here.

Hey I have to add my say in this. All the Ford dealerships I have dealt with don't care, all they care about is getting your money then kicking you in the butt for it all... When you call Ford. Write down the name of the person you talk to. Cause even they don't tell the truth so if you have their name you can tell their boss what a sucky job they do, then get the bosses name and so on right until you talk to the CEO of the company FORD four letter word I've got a four letter word that begins with F for the Ford's service departments.

My dealership told me my 99 would get a FQR (Ford Quality Remanufactured) long block to replace my slapper.

Not even a whole engine.

He said current model years (Now 2001's) would get a new "off the line" replacement motor.

I tried to get them to give me a 5/75 powertrain warranty but all I could get was a discounted one ($500).

Door cracks and slapper.

Yep, they told me the same thing, "remanufactured" long block. That's when I started to look into trading it in. You would not have bought your truck if you new 1 year down the road you would have a rebuilt engine in it. At least that's what I keep telling them. I want I brand new engine like when bought it...it's not my fault they put a bad engine in my truck, so I want them to make it right, the way it was supposed to be to begin with.

All bullsh$%.... I had same problem back in June and i got a new 2000 windsor stickered engine,,, They took off all the long block stuff, and replaced with my intakes, and ac units, etc, but the blk was new, and hasnt had any problems, except minor crap...but you have to keep up, and know what to demand... I said demand...if you get no where, start writing ,, they will get tired of hearing from you...

99's are too old now u only get FQR's I work for ford and i still cant get a new enging for my truck, I have had a work order open on it for a couple of months now and latly i havent worried about it as it has been warm, but when it gets cold i will be back on there case. As for FQR i will keep what i have before i will put in an fqr, from what i have seeen of the fqr's is that there has been such a high demand for them that in reality i belive that they are and ER ( engine rebuilders) engine and not even a Ford Quality Rebuild, and believe me there used to be a difference.

Hey by the way anyone has a guess on what they think ford would pay a tech to do a long block 5.4, cut that in half and then u will be close, so if u have problems with your vehicles after the engine is replaced dont always jump on the techs case we are only tring to make a living

Or worse, what if the dealers are pocketing the difference, then honing the blocks out and putting pistons and rings in them! I have an appointment for Tuesday to get my 4.6 checked out. It's making a wierd noise while idling, sounds to me like rod bearings,or maybe the pistons are slapping. light knocking, not heavy like a main bearing. almost sounds like a tuning fork, albeit a heavy one......wish me luck,guys,,,,98
