Question Hey Magnacharger brothers.....

Hey guys!!

I was wondering if any of you guys have changed the blower pulley to a smaller id to speed up the boost yet? And if so, was it worth the expense?

Not yet. I mentioned that to Chris at Magnacharger back when I bought mine. He sort of skipped around the question. He told me I couldn't get a different pulley from them at that time. I got the feeling that was not something he would recommend changing. He never said *don't change it*. But at the same time he didn't offer any info on doing so. And got off the subject rather quickly. The reason I was asking is, I'm getting 5 psi maximum. They say it's a 6 psi kit. He told me that was normal and it could be my guage is off. That's not impossible but I don't think so. It's a pretty high dollar hand held guage and has been handled with care. Also I'm assuming that changing the pulley will void the warranty. I really don't want a whole lot more boost. I think the truck could handle 7 or 8 psi as easily as 5 or 6 psi. My concern would be blower speed. All of Eaton's charts for the M90 stop at 12k rpm. I'm going to assume that is maximum rpm for that blower.
I wasn't able to find info relating to what the actual blower rpm is at maximum engine rpm with the pulley the kit comes with. Bottom line for me is, I would have to gather more info before making any changes. That's not something I would want to jump into head first and blind. It could be a very costly decision.

Cool

I also talked to Chris and got the same impression. I will wait a little longer and gather more info before I do the job on my truck. Besides,I just did a pile of mods at once and need to get them all sorted out before I go any further. I know I will need to send my chip back because of the 4:10 gears, MAF, and TB mods. I plan to dyno on the 4th of Nov and will let you know how it went.

Flatsman has the plan! Wait until the warranty expires, then consider the pulley. Fred also said we need to get with Chris so he can provide the PROCEDURE for changing the pulley.

6 to 8 psi SHOULD be safe, when using HIGH octane fuel.

In the meantime, consider the MAF, TB, and a TB spacer (to increase plenum volume) just as Flatsman did. These mods, combined with a good exhaust system will maximize output at the boost levels we are seeing with the stock pulley.

I have read, but have not verified, the stock MAF I.D. is 80 mm. If this is true, do the TB and spacer first, and match this diameter. When purchasing these parts, try find composite or phenolic construction, because these materials do not transfer as much heat.

Try to make these mods one at a time, then test drive. This way you can mark your progress, and if any problems do arise, it will be easier to sort them out.

BTW- Don't forget to duct in cool air. Blowers really love the cooler air!
