Air Compressor
Air Compressor
I am putting a sanden AC compressor on my motor to compress air. Compressor will run piggy back on the original AC unit and belting will run from a pulley added to the water pump (removed fan electric). Did it on my old truck and doing it again.
Who has worked on this with the new trucks ?

semi done
Tonight I mounted the compressor and made the mounting brakets, and machined pulley for water pump. Need a belt and fittings and I will be compressing. I do not know if slipping will be a problem on the smooth water pump pulley, most of the pulley is in contact with the belt. Also the fan used to turn from this, so I have all that power to turn the compressor. I am debating on a oiler similar to a air tool oiler for the intake port on compressor or put the oil in the wable plate and connecting rod case and hope that not alot will leak past the rings ecspecially when the compressor is off and oil sitting.
Take a look at www.onboardair.com ,although not alot of good help for the sanden model

you have a v6. your comp. is on top. the v8 is on the bottom. and no room for that kit. i would love to use that type of sys. i went with the quick air 2 system and mounted the comp. behind the seat against the cab. work's ok. but not as good as my buddy's jeep. with an a/c comp style like your's.
Okay, I'll be the stupid one. Why are you doing this? Is this going to be used as a supply source for compressed air for air tools, etc., or something else. Just very curious.

Air!!
People do it for all kinds of reasons, the reason I did it on my Samurai was for air tools and my impending ARB air lockers.
it also helps with airing up and down as you get to and leave the trails for offroading.

Ask for Chris George,
i use mine to air my tire's. i let the pressure down to about 15 psi. it make's alot of deff. when in nasty mud or snow. and it smooth's out the ride also. it's a great way to get more traction while off road. i have been stuck side way's on a side hill and looking at some winching time. aired down, and drove right out.
I suspect the primary use is for airing up tires after offroading, but I would imagine it could come in handy to power impact wrenches and lift bags (instead of using the exhaust).
Isn't the old fashioned Tecumseh-type compressor the preferred conversion?

The compressor can be used for anything, tools, tires, air horns, cannons, the normal stuff.
Its faster than the average garage compressor being 5hp or so.
Quiet, when was the last time you heard your AC running, no noise.
Reliable when maintnanced correctly.
Portable with the truck.
Air horns, had 1 three foot and 2 two footers under the bed with electric selenoids and they would be heard. I would drive up to semi's on the highway and get them to honk and they thought they were cool cause they had a dinkie horn, then I let 'em rip and show them what they should sound like. Or I would honk just for the pure joy of being able to make that much noise. Great comeback for when someone bumps there speakers more than you care to hear.
Cannon= 3gallon air tank and 2 inch ball valve, turned wide open in a quarter second and sending 120 PSI into the air along with any thing infront of it, maybe a soda can that can travel 300 yards, very fun and dangerous, need a good compressor to do this and where ever your truck goes your cannon is sure follow.

Okay. I get it! Thanks! i'm not an off-road person, really, so that's why I never heard of that before. BUT, I make a living doing mobile repairs, and that sure sounds alot better than lugging around an electric compressor AND a 5000w generator! I feel pretty stupid now, but when that damn earthquake hits, and the power goes out for days, it's MY refrigerator that will have cold beers in it!
Thanks again!

PSI
Here is some more PSI (pure sh!@ information) Something called a cold gun takes compressed air and spins it in a venturi and separates the hot and cold molecules and puts them out separate ends, one hot and one cold, cold guns are used for machineing to cool cuters and some computer stuff also. So forget the generator and the refrigerator and you can still have your cold beer.
