Help with next mod
I was just wondering if you guys could help me in decideing what my next modification should be? The first thing I did when I bought it was drop in a K&N air filter. Next I purchased a Superchip (by far the biggest bang for the buck). Next I installed a Gibson Stainless steel exhaust. Dual out the rear. With the new exhaust I felt as if I lost some tourqe, but gained on the top end. Saturday I bought my baby some new shoes. BFG 265/75/16's. I know there not going to help with the get up and go. My ? is what mod can I do next to regain some tourqe. I'm looking foward to your responses, you guys haven't let me down yet.

Hi Sir James,
It's somewhat common to lose some low-rpm torque but gain higher-rpm horsepower when doing exhaust mods.
Next up could be things like a nice 3-piece set of underdrive pulleys, or a set of headers. Or perhaps changing over to electric cooling fans.
And if you *really* want to get all you can out of it, and help compensate for those larger tires, a gear ratio change might be in order, but that does start getting a bit expensive, so it all depends on just what your goals are, and how much you are willing to spend to get there.
Good luck!

Hey sirjames...want your torgue and HP back!
Take that Dual exhaust back off and install a Gibson "Swept Side" SINGLE cat back exhaust on it....you will be amazed at the difference it will make to your truck.
The duals just killed your bottom end torque and HP...go back to the single!
Just my .02 Canadian cents though!

if you have the money, supercharger!
but in reality, a gear change is the best idea, but that is about 1/3 the price of a supercharger.
I would suggest an electric fan. Get something like the Mark8 fan, $99 from Houston performance: http://www.houstonperformance.com
then get a PSM variflow controller to control that fan! $95 online @ http://www.psm1.com
That is my next upgrade in about 2 weeks!

SirJames,
Mike is right. The electric fan and underdrive pullies will get you back some of the ponies your accessories are robbing you of.
When I installed my K&N FIPK Gen II, I picked up some of the bottom end that I lost when I had the 2.5" duals installed. Make sure you have some sort of balance tube or "X" pipe connecting the left and right exhaust, somewhere between the mufflers and the manifolds. If all fails, get some 4.10s.
dats just my pinion, ahhh could be rong.

SirJames,
I think everyone's first purchase (after the actual truck) should be a digital camera! How bout some pics? Are the new shoes riding around on the stock wheels? I'm all for performance but I like my truck to look good to. Besides, I hear chrome wheels make you go fast!
Others,
All this talk about torque has me wondering. I felt some low end power loss after installing my 305's. After the exaust I got some top end and again with the Velocity Tube. Should I be thinking of changing my gears now too? If so, what will a set of 4.10's do to my wallet?

I would first like to thank everyone for there responses. I have been thinking of trying a FIPK. Do you think I will feel any diffrence?
You guys won't believe this one. In my original post I told you I just had some 265/75/16's put on my truck Saturday. Well that is half true. Today while at the gas station(GO Figure), I noticed the front tires appeared to be larger than the rear. After further inspection that was definately the case. I now have 285's on the front and 265's on the rear. I went to Dunn Tire, the most repetable place around here, so I thought.
Now I have a tough decision. I originally thought I wanted the 265's. After seeing the 285's on my truck I like them much better. The manager said do to there mistake they would be willing to give me whatever I wanted at no extra cost. That would mean I could get a set of 285's for the price of 265's($664.96)total. All in all it's just unbelievabl.

Three 285's and one 295? Is this so hard. Can we please get 4 matching tires...ha ha. My only concern is I am putting them on stock rims. The tire dealer said the smallest rim you could put a 285 on was 16x71/2. Anything smaller I would get uneven tire wear. ? I don't know.
285's will fit stock rims. I have 285 75 16 Wild Country's on stock 2001 rims. Sorry the pic looks so bad, I'll take some better ones soon.
