Post Transmission question

I am looking to upgrade to a full-size truck. I have found one thing all makes have in common of later models is problems with automatic transmissions. It seems Ford to a lesser degree. I will not be hauling anything heavy but want it to do double duty as a daily driver. Right now I have a 69 F 150 with a 302 automatic that still runs good but is in need of restoration. I am looking for something to replace it while restoration takes place. I am a bit hesitate about purchasing anything late model because of the info I have read. Are todays automatics that bad?

This is the engine section..........................but anyway what in the world have you heard about the 4R70W or the E4OD or the 4100R, that is so bad? Sure some are not as good as others but they sure have held up better than some of GM's or Dodges trannys..

I have 44K on my truck. Once a month I tow a small enclosed trailer to the race track. Usually 200-250 miles round trip over 3,000' mountains. Not a single problem with it from day one.

With proper preventative maintenance you should have no problems for a long time. Where folks have trouble is either towing and it gets too hot or else they are not doing the recommended servicing.
