Question Where to begin?

I am the owner of a completely stock 1994 F-150 XLT standard cab, long bed. There are 165,000 miles on the 5.0 L and automatic transmission. The truck is in exceptionally good condition.

I have already rebuilt the front brakes (complete) and front-end as well as spent money on the usual maintenance (shocks, tires, belts, hoses). I am ready to begin research on a replacement motor and transmission, however I need advice on performance upgrades.

If anyone can recommend manufacturers on the following, as well as relate any personal experience with upgrades, please respond:

1) Headers / exhaust
2) Performance chip / module
3) Intake / filter

I do not want ot go overboard, just want a little extra performance out of the new motor.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

A good choice for headers would be JBA headers or Edelbrock. For the chip a Superchip is the way to go.(talk to Mike Troyer over in the Computer chips forum.) As for the Intake and filter you could try a K&N FIPK or just a K&N filter. I don't really know if they make an FIPK for a 5.0, but check it out. Hope this helps you out.

yes K&N make an fipk for the 5.0 . but if ya search around you can find one for about $200. on the other hand you can get a stock K&N replacement filter and cut the bottom of the air box off like i did (pics in my gallery) and make it work as well .

headers, you have a lot to pick from: heddman, dynomax (the ones i want), jba, edelbrock, hooker...the list goes on and on. try to go for some that are ceramic coated. as far as intake, you can go with a K&N FIPK (much better than just the filter).
