Whistling Noise?
Did you install a FIRK Induction kit or a throttle body spacer? Some people have said that they heard a whistling noise after installing one or both of these items.
I can hear it on my truck every once and a while (due to the K&N FIRK).

Come to think of it, I added a Pro-M 83 Mass Air Meter. But that was about a year ago.
Was there a resolution? (cleaning? replacing? putting the stock one in?)
Thanks,

Hey all,
I have a 99 F-150 5.4l 4x4 and ...
I'm a little stumped on a high pitched whistling sound that I hear when I'm driving under ~30 mph.
It doesn't go away when I hit the brakes, but goes away when I come to a complete stop or go above 25 - 30 mph. I also don't hear it in neutral while revving the engine, I only hear it when I'm moving.
The belts seem fine and I'm stumped as hell trying to track it down - gonna hate goin to the dealer for this one.
Does anybody have any ideas on what it may be?
Thanks in advance,
Ray

I have a somewhat sililar noise if not the same. I kinda describe mine as a combination chirping and scraping noise.I only hear the noise from about 35 mph on down, the noise slows down as the truck slows down.I had it to the dealer on Friday and guess what? The mechanic could not hear it, just what I thought would happen and they said I needed brakes, well the new brakes were put on and no difference in the noise. I already knew that it wasn't brake related. My noise started about a month and a half ago and has gotten louder.I hope somebody can shed some light on this because it is embarrasing and annoying. If I find anything out I will post right away.

I have the whistling noise on my '99 4.6 and I've pursued every avenue...including 12 visits to the dealership, 4 visits to another dealership, having the regional Ford rep. tell me that the "whistling noise is within Ford specs...", and having a lawyer threaten Ford via mail.
The result...nothing. So it's up to me to get it fixed. The good news (I think) is Neal's message about throttle body spacer clearance being incorrect and causing whistling. I can't reproduce whistling in neutral, only moving like you. So, if the air intake is huge in gear then maybe if I take off the throttle body and trim down the spacer then the whistling may go away. I'm hoping anyway.
I'm a shade-tree mechanic...anything to watch out for when taking the throttle body off to get to the spacer?
