Question K&N Problem

Has anyone experienced any howling or loud whistling noises with the Airraid/K&N Filter Kit. This only occurs when the temperature outside is below about 50 degrees. It also forces the idle up to about 1100 RPM's. In fact it usually happens when coming to a stop and it seems like the idle gets caught up at 1100 and starts this howling noise. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cool

I have the Airaid w/ K&N. I have not heard any loud howling or whistling noises at 1100 RPM's when it's 50 degrees. In fact my idle doesn't go up to 1100 RPM's because of 50 degree temperature. Although it hasn't gotten much colder than 50 since I installed my Airaid.

I just installed The K&N filter kit tonight. noticed a little whistle from the engine. I think it is the intake hose ( the kit did not have enough hose clamps ) I bought Two more and will try it tomorrow. Hope it stops the whistle. I'll let you know.

On the K&N kit, the normal sound at idle is a hiss, like a snake, that you really can't hear when the hood is closed. If you are hearing a whistle, you have a vacuum leak. The high idle would also indicate a vacuum leak.

Your idle should be the same as stock, around 600 RPM. Mine kicks up to 800 RPM on really hot days but I think that is a Ford programming thing to get the air moving under the hood.

Check your throttle linkages for binding. This could cause more than a high idle if you are not careful.

Good luck.

I just installed the Airforce One and I notice the same hiss. It's about 35 degrees here now and it hissed.

When I first installed it it seemed to be jerky, but now it performs and sounds great!

The only problem is my check engine light is on. Can anyone help?
