Wink Catback Or Superchip ??

Installed a WMS velocity fresh air tube on the truck last month...good investment!!

Since both of my next performance goodies can not be justified in my budget at this time I am trying to figure out what would be the next best to purchase.....Gibson Sweptside Catback exhaust or Superchip ??

I am planning on towing some snowmobile trailers this winter and need to figure out what would be the biggest bang for my buck.

Both of these fine products will be on my truck one day but can only choose one right now!

Please help!

Love this truck!

HI 2001,

The Gibson cat-back exhaust is a good mod, they add about 10-12 more hp on the 4.6 motor in the F-150, at the flywheel.

In terms of your criteria, most bang-for-the-buck, the Superchip wins hands down, as it adds a maximum of 26 hp & 40 lbs./ft. of torque, and will also vastly improve the shift characteristics of the automatic transmission models. The top speed limiter is removed, shift delays removed, transitional spark retards removed, etc.

The nice thing is that you can do these mods in any order you like, of course.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is just below.

Best of luck with your new truck,

The Gibson seems to fatten the torque and HP curve in the low to mid RPM range. Less downshifts on hills at highway speed.

I hear the Superchip is the cat's meow but you have to run super unleaded. Then there's the "check engine" light issue that seems to keep coming up.

I installed the Gibson system in my driveway in about 2 hours. That includes taking out the factory system. It sounds great!

Hope this helps.

Cool

At this point, it's probably a toss up. I went with the exhaust fisrt, because I got in on the $100 off at carparts.com they had in July and August. The Superchip will be my next upgrade, when the fundage permits.

Since you have the 4.6, the Superchip may be the next best thing for you, since it will give you better shift chacteristics. The 4.6 trucks seem to do a lot more shifting at highway speeds than the 5.4s.

Good luck with the decision.
