Question Inconsistant engine performance

My 97` f-150 has a 5.4l with auto tranny. Ever since i`ve owned this truck i have no major problems with performance. However, some days my truck seems to be sluggish, and other days it has more pep. I was wondering why this might be. Have any of you had this experience with your truck? Any replies would be appreciated.THANKS!!

I have noticed this with all of the vehicles I have ever owned. I think that the air temp and humidity, can have an impact.

I have noticed that the transmission sometimes does not want to shift down to first gear, even if to are almost at a complete stop. So when you hit the gas, it bogs instead of going down a gear. If you stomp on it, it will eventually get to first gear after all of the associated preparation.

Thumbs up

Stickman, I have had the same experience. Some days my truck runs cherry. It shifts nice and crisp, and the acceleration is like a sportscar. Then there is the days I don't want to run into any competition, because I know my baby don't have her stuff. It will feel sluggish. when I hit the passing gear it just bogs down. I do believe it has to do with weather. One cool night I challenged my buddy who has a 92 camaro with a 305. I actually had a little lead until we hit about 95mph. He wasn't very happy that a 6000lb truck could take him at the line. He is now investing in a 350, and I'm investing my money in a Mustang.
