Unhappy Truck not starting!!!! need help!

OK here's the deal.(auto-4.6) I'll just explain briefly what happened. Gas light came on on Sunday - it had been on for about 20 miles before i could fill her up. drove straight home. i had no probs driving to work the next day. Monday night leaving work i had to try starting twice. the first time it didn't start - just a....rerr rerr rerr rerr (quickly) sound.
after it started the second try i drove a few feet before it just cut off. repeated the whole process again , each time she's taking more tries to start. when it starts it would rev to about 1400 r.p.m's and then just shut off! It did not even give me a chance to gas it . after about 4 minutes i try again and it starts fine and allows me to drive home. Teusday evening i try to start her again and the same process follows. Now the ENGINE light is on.
What do you guys think?
Now it just won't start!!!
when it started during the ordeal
Please help it ran like nothing was wrong - no sputtering or anything!

Well man, I have no idea, but I'd start by changing the fuel filter, and resetting the computer. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - is changing the fuel filter something that can be done without any specialty tools? is it difficult to do? i have a fair amount of mechanical knowledge ( installed the airaid and chip)
I also have a superchip - should i try removing it? Lastly - how do i reset the computer?
Thanks again

Leave the Superchips in place.
Change the fuel filter (you can buy the tool to disconnect the fuel lines at places like Auto Zone for less than $10).

I had an old Datsun pickup that I ran out of gas and after that it would plug up the fuel filter every 5 or 6 thousand miles. I must have stirred up the junk on the bottom of the tank.

Reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and turning on the headlights.

Thanks guys - i'll try that early in the morning. hopefully it's the fuel filter and nothing else. do you know generally how long that would take and should i be mindful of anything in particular?

I think a tool is required to remove the old fuel filter, but I'm not sure. I believe their is an FAQ on this site that will walk you through the process though. Also, I would try removing the chip, and resetting the computer.
