How Much For A Wreck??
How Much For A Wreck??
Hey Gang,
I have a buddy whom is bidding on a wrecked 97 F150 XL Super Cab, 4.6. with 70,000 mile The front end is toast and both air bags deployed.
How much should he bid? How much would you bid?
Any thoughts on what the parts would be worth?
Thanks

well, I dont know how much time you have, but as of today 06 wednesday, my truck is being torn apart by progressive to give me an estimate on repair. 97 f150 ex cab 4.6 lwb, auto, XL ,cloth seats everything but pw, pl. . . 177000 ,miles.
airbags did not deploy. fender, hood, bumper, grill and body work the door because the stupid wrecker driver tried to open it. The headlight and right fender are OK. I'll post as soon as the estimate is in. The guy I work with said even though the truck looks good and runs good, the miles may total it. I'll let you know.
Oh I see you are in Katy, I am in willis, Just north of Conroe.

It will ultimately depend upon the condition of the wreck... a true 'totaled' vehicle will cost less than an insurance totaled wreck... which only means that the cost of repairs exceeds blue book value. Typically, you can buy salvage for 10 to 15 percent of the totaled payoff amount... if it was $10,000, expect to pay $1,000 to $1,500 for the truck.
There are lots of good parts in that truck... probably the engine and drivetrain, wheels, axles, and drums, the bed, rear quarter panels, bumper, hitch, interior items like seats, radios, speedos, A/C heads, etc.
If you part it out, you can do pretty well... but that implies that you have the time and space to do this.

I am a claims aduster and I recently sold a totaled 2000 4 door explorer w 45,000 miles for $2200. It was a roll-over. Only usable body parts were 2 doors, rear hatch and window, rims and tires. Don't know if this helps or not.
nojeffgordon, you bet. I try to make all of them that come. I think there are 3 during the year. I know one of them is the biggest I have ever been to. The others are so-so. Yeah, I'm going to try and make it out the weekend of the 16 and 17. I dont know if it is the big one, but I'll be there on the prowl for a good deal. I am still waiting for progressive to give me the numbers on that wreck. I took some digital shots yesterday at Weisner in Conroe. If I knew how to post to this kind of a site I would. (that means somebody out there want to Email me on how) wendstar@flex.net Let you know as soon as possible.
