I have a '97 F150 4.2L with 57,335 miles that was idling a bit rough so changed the spark plugs on Tuesday back to the MotorCraft Platinum and today I changed the wires as well.
I went with the Ford Motorsport 9mm Universal wires and my engine couldn't be happier. It starts right up.Idles evenly and has great throttle response.Much improved!!!
For the most part,I believe that the OEM parts are always the answer.
It's really not all that difficult to change the wires either once you get started.Took me about 20 mintues without instructions and I'd never done it before )

Are the Motorsport 9mm's radio-supression or non-radio supression? Just wondering. I'd venture my opinion here that the 8mm's will sufice in most applications. Does anyone have any numbers on the 9mm's v. 8mm's.

White Monkey,
I'm not sure if the Motorsport 9mm are radio-supression or not.I don't have the box with me right now and the site I bought them at doesn't state.
The dealer wanted $78.00 for the MotorCraft set.I found the Motorsport wires at www.racesearch.com for $45.89 so I thought I'd just see how they worked.
They seem to be contructed to much higher standards than the MotorCraft wires I removed. The rubber insulation is tougher and the boots fit the plug tighter without being difficult to remove.
Motorsports also makes a set of 9mm wires for the 4.6L 2V F-150,P#:M-12259-T462,that they offer for $79.89

Most wire will say right on the wire. They might have changed the regulation but they used to have to state that right on the wire.
You'd hear more radio noise if they were non-supression wires. Maybe the 9mm is to compensate for the signal loss using radio supression. Makes sense. Performance and no engine whine.
