Help with my Stock chip/computer?
Hey guys,
Does the chip in all our trucks, when downloaded onto that diagnostic machine, show the speeds we've gone? or just just revs?
This is a really important questions.
If so, is there a way to reset the trucks chip (if so, tell me how).

I dont think it records top speed but disconecting the battery and turning on the lights should do the trick.

Yes, they can select ALL inputs and outputs, and they can print a graph of it.
The only way this can happen is if they have given you the "Flight Recorder", MPH is selected, you go for a test drive, and hit the record button while driving 100mph. The PCM does NOT store this information.
Assumuing you have taken it in for diagnostic work, disconnecting the battery will mask the problem you are having. There is no need to do this.

Hi modestroman,
No, these Ford computers do not store that information. Certain years of Cadillac computers *do* store the highest speed the vehicle has ever attained, but these Fords do not.
You can clear info by doing a battery disconnect for a long enough period of time. What we do is to disconnect the negative lead, turn the headlights on for 5 minutes to drain all residual voltage from IC's & caps, and then turn off the headlights & re-connect the battery.
If you disconnect the battery when you have a check engine light, this only clears it temporarily if there is an actual problem, as the check engine light will re-occur until the actual problem is fixed. Check engine codes are also stored for a certain number of KEKO (key on, key off) cycles, so even if the light isn't on, that info can still be retrieved for awhile.
But as far as revs & speed info, no, that isn't stored, and with the factory programming you can't hurt your engine with the speeds it is governed to anyway. Remember, your vehicle has a couple of rev limiters! One is called the "no-load" rev limiter, and controls maximum engine rpms in situations where there is no load on the engine, such as when you're in Neutral or Park, or have the clutch pushed in on the manuals, or if you're spinning the tires very violently hard say, in 1st gear on wet pavement. These "no-load" rev limiters are normally set to around 4500 rpm, max.
Then there is the absolute rev limiter, which controls maximum engine rpms when the engine has a load on it, so there is no way you can possibly overspeed or over-rev your engine with the factory programming, if that is what you are concerned about.
Good luck!
