Unhappy first time ford owner

Just bought my Ford. It's a 4.2 V6, 3.55 ratio axel. Silver clearcoat metallic, roughly has 3500 miles on it. I can't seem to get more than 350 miles to a tank, running 87 octane. Just switched to Mobil 1, 5W30 Synthetic. Can't find a K & N Air filter in my area. Will probably have to order. Any other advice on the above would be great.

Cool

I have basically the same truck with 5-speed.
these engines take a while to break in.mine was the same as yours at that mileage then when it hit around 6,ooo to 8,000 the mileage on a tank went to 400 to 410.at almost 20,000 miles now I average about 19 miles to a gallon in town with air.be patient you'll be surprised.

Same here. I get 400 miles to each tank of gas on my '99 with 20k miles. You can get a K&N filter from a bunch of places. Should be around $45.-50. bucks...

I "Ride Red" too my man. 1996 CR250. I'm only glad that my F-150 doesn't require NEARLY as much maintenance the CR. Just had the suspension re-built last week for the second time. Went Pro-Action this time around.

Wink

Do you have an AUTO ZONE in your area? They carry K&N filters now. Go to Autozone.com and check to see if they and you can find the nearest store and check to see if that store has the K&N filter you need for yu truck. I went with the K&N FIPK and love it. I had them on my 91 Turbo MR2, my 93 300Z, my 95 Vette, My 93 S10 Vortec 4wd Blazer and my 98 F150 Nascar Spec. Ed... Never had a problem with any of them. My truck is on page 270-300 of the current owner photos...
