Jacobs with Accell coil packs
Doorslammer (or anyone who has this mod),
Did you ever get the Accel coil packs installed with your Jacobs unit??
How is everything working?

Just came back from a road test after installing Jacobs DIS w/ plug wires, Bosch copper plugs (gapped at .70) and 2 Accel coil packs.
I installed the Accel packs, Jacobs plug wires, and Bosch plugs (side gapped at .55) first and then drove the F around for about 1/2 mile just to check my work and the packs. HP and torque up ~ 4-5% I'd guess. Certainly much more responsive than without. Came back and installed Jacobs DIS. No noticable change in ride feel after the Jacobs install w/ plugs at .55". Swapped the side-gapped plugs for OEM configured plugs gapped at the Jacobs-recommended .70". May be my imagination, but response seems a little better than w/ .55 plugs.
Tested at 70 mph on cruise control, flat ground, no wind. I'm getting 17.48mpg now, up 1.81mpg with these new mods. This is as accurate a reading as I can make it. I filled up on both occasions right to the neck, and both stations were within a block of the hi-way ramps, and no lights. These figures are no jive! I wouldn't BS to ease my pain--I'd be out flamin' Jacobs and Accel if the gains were minimal, but I couldn't be happier. Wonder what a Superchip would do...
By the way, if you've ever changed plugs on a 90's Tbird SC, the F150 is a piece of cake. Don't let the threads to the contrary scare you. At least in the 150's, you can find all the plug holes with a flashlight...

gofish, how much money do have in it with the wires, coil packs, and Jacobs DIS,I'm thinking
about replacing my parts with the same ones
you used. Is the install of the DIS difficult,
or is it set up with factory style hookups.
Sounds like they look as good as they perform. A word of caution, though, I've heard
it's not good for the emissions system to fill
the tank past the shutoff. something about the
excess fuel going into the return line to the
system could prematurely cause the truck to
fail the smog test.

Screamer,
Thanks for the fillup tip. I only top off when I want a real accurate measurement, and that's only happened twice, but I'll stop now.
Costs were:
Jacobs DIS $375 (includes plug wires)
Bosch copper plugs 8
Accel coils 112
The DIS installation is time consuming but easy--for the plugs I used a spark plug socket with a built-in U-joint taped to a 3" extension so they wouldn't come apart. I could reach any of the plugs with that setup w/o hassles and add extensions if needed.

Gofish,
I have to agree. Have heard different things from others but the seat of my pants don't lie. Nor does the milage. I have by habbit always zeroed the trip odometer at every fill-up. I am averageing at least 10% better milage since buying my Jacobs unit. Don't have the coils. Best gain is when I pull my trailer. Have gotten 20% and more better milage depending weather I am pulling in the mountains or not. I too am seriously considering a super chip...

WLF,
Had to stay home today--waiting for a phone tech to wire the house. Nothing to do except get on the phone and discuss bennie's of the Superchip with Mike T. Idle minds are the devil's playground...I shoulda gone to work. Woulda saved the cost of a Superchip. I'll let you know what it does.

GOFISH,
From what I hear you'll be glad you stayed home... I will await word. I can't stay home yet but as soon as the wallet says I can you can bet I too will be running a superchip...

WLF,
Dunno if you've been following crosstalk I had with Mike T; I've installed the Superchip. The performance gains are great: between 18-25 HP seat-of-pants! Torque is way up, too. I don't feel the tranny shifts like others claim though.
Mileage-wise, I've only put on ~50 miles since the addition, and the figures went from 17.34 to 15.39mpg.
The short version is, Mike T says I need to give it more time (500-1000 miles) to settle in, and that the mileage problem may be an 'energy content' feature governed by Fed regs stemming from regional gas vs. AirQualControl. If that's the issue, I'm hosed. In either case, with hindsight as my ally, I'd have added the chip despite the mileage figures solely for the performance gains. (I only drive the F about 10,000 miles/year, and I found premium gasoline for less than regular's price through priceline.com)
