Angry HUMMING NOISE

HELP!
I have a humming noise I cannot locate! I own a 1986 F-150 4x4, fuel injected, 302. I thought it was the fuel pump but that I can hear run for two seconds when I turn the key before I start it. After I start it, the humm is pretty loud in the cab. Not sure if it's the power steering or what.

It doesn't really change in volume or pattern. Just a constant hum.

Don't believe it's the fuel pump but WHO KNOWS????

Thank You for any suggestions.

Matt

This might sound crazy, but is the sound comming from your speakers. I worked in a stereo shop in college and you would be surprised what kind of electrical sounds can resinate through your audio system.(fan motors, fuel pumps, etc...)Chevys were bad about this due to the factory radio being crammed in the dash next to every electical thing imaginable...Just a suggestion....
Good luck...

Idaho, The Ford of that vintage did have an inherit HUM from the power steering pump. But you should be able to tell by moving the wheel back and forth real fast.....it would change pitch slightly.

Thanks for your answers. Tested both last night. It's the powersteering pump. Next question....if I replace it, will the new pump hum like the old one?

Appreciate the help.
