Post k&n question

question:

yesterday i installed a k&n fipk. the truck runs great but today the service engine light came on. is this anything to worry about or does the computer just have to learn the new air/fuel ratios?

Anytime the Engine Light comes on you should be concerned. However, I would disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes to reset the computer. Then try it again!

If that does not work, I dont know what to tell you! The K&N is probably causing the MAF sensor to send a signal to the computer telling it that something is wrong.

Could it be a dirty MAF?

Yes, most likely your K&N came with a bit to much oil in it. Is this the filter or the FIPK?

If its the filter, simply remove the MAF, spray with carb/brake cleaner, wait 10 -15 min, then reinstall the MAF and all should be well. I put mine in about 30000 miles ago and never had to reset the battery. Sometimes the oil can contaminate the MAF and thats when cleaning it comes in (this happened to my Explorer).

TURNS OUT THERE WAS SOME BLACK PLASTIC THAT GOT CAUGHT IN THE SENSOR. STILL, THE TRUCK RAN BETTER WITH THE STOCK AIR CLEANER SO I CHANGED BACK. HOPEFULLY THE SUPERCHIP WILL YIELD BETTER RESULTS.
