when to change plugs??
When should the 4.6 plugs be changed?
I know they last a lot longer due to the
modern ignition,but I'm 45,000 miles and
don't know if they have been changed.
I bought the truck with 24,000 miles and
have no knowledge of the past maintenance history. I've been wanting
to use the accel packs and change the
wires,so should I go ahead and change
them out in the process? which ones are the best performers for the money?
thanks in advance for any help...........

Here's a link you will probably find interesting.
http://performanceunlimited.com/illu...parkplugs.html
As a side note.... I have a Jacobs ignition in my '95. The plug they suggest is Autolite, and they suggest against the Split Fire and all the other "high dollar" plugs. I had platinum plugs in my truck that were only about three weeks old when I installed the ignition. About a week later, I pulled them and replaced them with Autolites, and the truck ran noticeably better.
The idea is that the "long life", more expensive plugs would encourage you not to change them, and that a "cheaper" plug, replaced more frequently will work better.
You might want to do a search for Accel or Jacobs. I think a few people are running one or both of these with similar findings.

I just changed mine with 60K. Looked like someone had changed them before, a long time before. gaps were all different and a lot of deposits. You should change plugs at 5K-15K for best economy and performance.
I guess I should change them, huh. They've gone at least 22,000 miles with
me driving it so I'll bet they pretty much
gone,,, I used to have a Caprice (ignorance is curable) that would run like
a different car when I'd change the plugs,
it had an oil burning issue, the least of many problems. thanks guys,,,98
