header competition...
hey,
here is what i know so far...
- TFX Pacesetter headers are one of the good brands, but u loose a considerable amount of low end power.
- JBA headers with a jet black coating is the most popular and most reliable, but they r expensive.
- Shorty headers r popular too, but it is not good to have short tubing for ur headers...?
- Heddman and Gibson i'm not too sure about yet.
here's my question.....i know that there is not 1 single header that has the highest rating in all of these categories, but which one would perform the best in each category?
1. Acceleration (off-the-line)
2. Acceleration (hwy boost)
3. MPG
4. Truck Sound (exhuast included)
5. Cost (parts & installation)
i've been pushed towards JBA so far, but i would like to see how each performs in each category.
thanx for the info and help guys,
J.P.

No long hedders...
As far as I know, all the hedders that you can get for the 4.6 are shorty hedders, whether all af them are equal length or not, I do not know. I have heard of long hedders finally being made for 5.4's, particularily Lightenings, you can probably find out who and how by doing a search in one of the exhaust or Lightening section.
Jan's issue of Trukin'(? I think, but it could have been one of the others) did a good article on installing JBA's to a 2000 4.6. They showed before and after dynos, they definately produced an increase through the powerband, and even a bit more with a cat-back system. I believe peak numbers were around 17 HP, 19 Ft/lbs, and about 24/25 with a catback. Pretty good, actually, if you want to justify the extreme cost of JBA's. I may have unwittingly lied on the numbers, just go to your local bookstore and find the article.
