Burning Electrical Smell in cabin
Burning Electrical Smell in cabin
While driving home in a snow storm, 4WD, for a short time I got the odor of burning electrical smell in the cabin. I thought maybe it was something from outside that just got in. It seemed to go away after 3 minutes. I stopped later at the local 7/11, and when I returned I caught just a wiff of it again. Everything functions fine, can't find anything wrong. Smell was gone the next morning. Anyone ever have this happen. It may have been something from the outside that came in the vent, but I don't really think so.
No, I was still doing 55 mph on the expressway. It wasn't in low. Also, I have had the new radio with the cooling fan installed to fix my Hot CD problem. I never smelled it again and its been 5 days. But obviously you worry.
If you have anything tapped into the fuse box for power, I'd check there first. I had power for my foglights tapped, and all was fine for a couple of months. After a while, I began smelling this hot electrical smell. I thought I was outside the truck also. Two days later I decided to check it out. The wire coming from the tap was glowing bright orange
, and it was melting the fuse box cover. Don't let it go too long without tracing the cause, you could end up with a vehicle fire, NOT GOOD!,,,,98
