Question Porting aluminium question??

Hey guys,

I was needing to know what types of "attachments" I would need for porting out aluminium. I have a Dremel at home and I was wanting to know what I would need to remove material and polishing it up. Thanks!!

So this is what you and Chris talked about..

Personally I have no idea what you would need, but then again I wouldn't even think of doing a port and polish myself..

I have had some contact with Steve at Houston Performance via e-mailabout getting a port and polish job with a mult-angle valve job..He assured me that they could do a vey nice custom cam job for me also..I will call them sometime in the next couple weeks and get some more specifics..But it looks like maybe another 50 HP or so is possible..

I also told Chris about my plans to go with a set of forged pistons and rods..He suggested I order a set for a Lightning from my local ford dealer..About $50 each he said for the pistons, with the optimal compression for a supercharged application..

So much work to do, so little time (I begin my Senior year of college next Wednesday)

Take care

Cool

what you need to port alum. is a carbide burr. they come in a shapes and sizes. i bought some from rutland tool (800)-289-4787. my tool has an 1/8" shank. i bought tool # sa-51 model 2064-0052 and tool # sc-51 model # 2064-0056. they where about $8 each. As far as buying pistons from the dealer why not go aftermarket - get a better product for a lower price.

Way2Big, I found a port and polish kit at SummitRacing.com for about $30.. Part #SUM-G1060.

You might want to check it out..

As for the pistons, I looked at aftermarket and it was going to cost considerably more..Besides, the Lighning Pistons are high quality forged...Alot better than a have now..

Take care

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the input! I thought the the carbide cutter was the right one. But, what do I use to smoothen it all up? Do I use a sanding flapwheel, grinding stones or a abrasive buff? By the way I'm not doing this on my heads. Thanks!

use a dremel part no 407 with a part no. 408 sanding wheel. i dont know what you are porting, but i used the carbide cutters and sanding drum to port match a 65mm throttle body to the intake on a 5.0 mustang. i also used it to port match a accel superram for my firebird. for small jobs like this it should work fine. for me, flapper wheels did nothing. i would not waste my time polishing it to a shine. what are you porting?
