Cool Ignition suggestions....

Hey guys,

Besides replacing the plugs and wires, what else can be done to improve the system we have now? I'm not familiar with ignition system at all, so any though suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Again, Thanks!!

Hey Way2Big...If you have a 5.4 like I do then you are pretty much out of luck...I have called both Accel and Jacobs and as of last week neither of them offer any products for the 5.4...So all I can do is change my plugs...And with the 5.4 there are no plug wires you can upgrade..

Take care

Question

JD-

I thought I had seen several members with upgraded plug wires, although I really never paid attention to the size of their motors.
I'll keep a eye/ear out to anything. Keep me informed! Thanks!

The 99 and 2000 5.4 models have coil on plug ignition. There a 8 coils and no wires. From what I can see (very little) the coils look to have a normal spark plug rubber boot attaching it to the plug. I would guess this is where some of the additional power comes from over pre 99 5.4 engines. I'm glad I don't have wires, they suck. But those plugs look really tough to change.

Hey 98, you can never have too much power, I think you would agree Way2Big...

It is true, we don't have any plug wires..Accel Makes some swwet aftermarket coil packs, but only for the 4.6...And the same goes for Jacobs, they only offer products fro the 4.6.But it is only a matter of time before these products are available to us..So I guess all I can do now is keep waiting..

And I'll post the second I find anything new.

take care

Cool

JD/2000 -

Thanks for the insight! I obviously did not "look" into it enough. I guess I will see if I can find anything out here, but I can tell you guys are way ahead of me!

JD -

Your VERY right about the HP issue! I'm trying on fabricating a ramair setup for her. The engine heat issue really nags at me!

Also, I noticed that your sig. is growing like mine. Like Mike Troyer told me, you'll have to start writing a book!! WOOHOO, th fun has just begun!!

Could it be the reason they dont make anything for the 5.4 ignition is because it doesnt need it?

You would think that if they were going to make anything that they would have by now. After all its only been 4 years since they came out with the engine. Same thing goes for all the other products we would like to see but never will. How long does it take?

Kenwood 4011 stereo, USAcoustics 2150 amp, Profile electronic 3 way crossover, 2 10" IDQ DVC's, and Polk Dx7 5x7/6x8 3 ways in the front doors.

FUTURE PERFORMANCE MODS:
4.10 gears, Edlebrock shocks, Magnacharger, Airaid, and slotted rotors.

The reason why there is a lot of parts for the 4.6 is because of the mustang. They engineer them for the mustangs knowing that people will be upgrading for more power in them.

Now with the 2000 cobra running a special 5.4 engine, there may be a few parts entering the market for these motors.

A mustang w/a 5.4L engine. I think I've got grunt, I'd like to see one of those things lay some rubber. That's nuts. And those things weigh like, half our weight.

JDarty,

I like your setup. Who did the installation of the supercharger? Of the mods listed, were they installed in that order? Is the Magnacharger one of the mods required to list when sending your sheet to the Superchips factory? How does the SC like your 4x4 setup? How much was your SC? And who'd you buy it from?

Hey RedBullSR,

I don't have my mods listed in order..I started with simple bolt-ons Like the FIPK,Gibson Catback, and Superchip...Next came the Granatelli MAF...Then the supercharger and BBK Throttlebody...I sent my chip back to Mike T to be re-flashed for the Supercharger...

And I am about to send it back again to be flashed for my 24# injectors and 80mm MAF.

I had the Supercharger install done at West Coast Customs here in Tuscaloosa Alabama.

The Magnacharger is amazing on my truck, I recomend it to anyone with a 4x4 or 4x2.

I purchased the Magnacharger kit directly from Magnacharger..It cost about $3500...You can get their contact info at Magnacharger.com

I hope this has helped..Let me know if you have any more questions about it

take care
