Wink Hey Hayden Fan Controller Users

I have my CrwnVic fan and my Hayden controller and will be installing the fan very soon. I checked smithmonte's site and liked the look of the extra Bosch relay. Was just wondering if any one that has done this mod has had any problems with their Hayden controller? Thanks

I didn't use the Bosch relay. However, I did replace the fuse on the controller with a 30amp fuse because it kept blowing.

I'm at the same point. I'm also grateful for any input. I have my stock fan taken off and have been driving without any fan for a few weeks now without any problems. I'll install the Hayden controller and make everything ready for installation, but won't put the fan in there if the engine doesn't get hot. Let's see how long I can drive it before it gets hot (and it gets hot here in Houston).
Follow the developments on my electric fan installation page.

Hummmmm....

I just installed a Hayden fan controller and 2 - 16" Hayden fans this past weekend and my controller actually came with a 30 amp fuse on one of the fan wires... I had to buy a fuse holder and fuse for the second fan wire but my controller came with 2 fan primary wires as well as the wire that connects to the compressor clutch wire.

It's cold where I am right now so the fans don't even come on unless I turn on the defroster and the compressor clutch kicks in. I'm thinking of putting a switch in-line with the wire that goes to the compressor clutch so I can keep the fan from running when I use the defroster in the winter time. Who needs the fans then anyway and running them would just make the engine heat up slower.

Make sense ? I'm new to the electric fan thing...

All right thanks for the replys. I bought some 30 amp fuses when I got the fan and will be using them with the Hayden unit. I guess if the Hayden craps out I can just drive around without a fan like bjoern does until I get it fixed. Thats pretty amazing no fan! but I guess what ever works.

Today was the first time the truck started to heat up more than normal. I was sitting in stop-and-go traffic for over 10 minutes when I noticed the needle going over 'N'. I pulled off the freeway and as soon as I got over 25-30mph it cooled down within a minute or two. I guess I'll put the fan on pretty soon now (just in case I get stuck in traffic again )

I got the fan installed. No big deal at all. Check out

On the crown vic fan, it does not push more than 25amps while on. It is a single speed fan. So I just replaced the fuse with a 30amp unit and installed a 30 amp circuit breaker between the controller and battery for extra protection. Never had any problems.

now if you have a fan like the SN95 or Mark8 unit, you will push more than 30amp if you wire it on high speed. Use the relay. It will not hurt anything on the hayden controller cause it is just acting as a on/off switch for the relay which is controlling all the current. Be sure if you wire up a fan such as mentioned on high, that you use the appropriate gauge wiring -- 4-8 gauge. You should be fine then. But in CJs truck with the auto, low speed on the mark8 was more than adequate and flowed as much as my CV fan.

Thanks Matt90gt I have your past posts on which wire is which on the Mrk8 fan and your other install tips. I know that this can be a pain in the *** but your information is very valuable and has saved me a lot of frustration, thank you very much. I'll probably just wire mine on low and use the Hayden unit. It sounds like it will be fine. Where I live rarely gets over 90 degrees anyway. Thanks again.
