Post 5.4 v-8 on super duty 4x4 xtracab enough power?????

I am thinking about buying a super duty 4x4 extra cab abd I was wondering if the 5.4 v-8 has enough power to pull this big truck around and not be dog slow?

Yes, it will do it. I have one but not with 4X4 but I tow a 24 foot Prowler Lite with it and it gets up and goes real good.

With any car/truck, gearing is a big factor. especially for towing. Stock they have 3.73s with 4.10s optional. I would get the 4.10s or 4.30s if you do a lot of towing.

True, but I find the 3.73's to be good for my needs. I get good gas mileage as well. Around 15 mixed, 17 t0 18 highway unloaded and 10 to 12 towing my TT. I found the F250SD SC with 5.4L to weigh about 500 pounds more than the comparably equiped F150 SC.

Don't forget gdblake, the 5.4L you get now-a-days is the 260HP and 345 pounds of torque model. So you would automatically get more power with a newer version of the 5.4L. And that is a mighty big trailer you are pulling as well. My camper is 3800 Dry GVW and 5600 Max GVW. So yours is much bigger. Yours just might be enough justification for going to the V10.

I have also been contimplating the up grade to a 3/4 ton with the 5.4, and have now driven both...infact just did it last night. It didn't seem like the 5.4 had the guts that the V10 did, but that might be taken care of with a chip, and airraid....just trying to figure out if the $600 option for the V10 is worth it or not.
I usually pull a 16 1/2' Boat, and loaded with camping gear, or a 4 wheeler in the back as well as towing the boat....I have a 99 F150, but it is in the shop nonstop and now a Ford rep. is looking at it.....if they deem it a lemon, I am looking to go with a 3/4 ton and get rid of some problems, as I haven't heard too many bad things about the Super Dutys as far as major problems..... Just wondering if there is any other input out there about the V10 to make the decision easier!!!!! Thanks in advance!!!

There are a lot of 5.4's on the lot in the Super Duties--I think the 10's are a little scarce. I have a light duty '97 (235hp/330 torque, and pull a 8200 lb trailer. Probably close to the 8600 lb limit with the hitch and baggage. This truck (250 ld, SC, 3.73 LS) is about 600 lbs lighter than the SD, and I wish I had more power. Going up hills is a struggle. The several people I've talked to, while traveling, Get about 2 mpg better pulling and about 2 mpg less than I do, empty, with their SD 10's
