Just did an air box mod.
I have the 99' F-150 4.2L V6 with a K&N air filter. I first decided to pull the rubber piece out of the body...then I took the air box apart, and cut the whole end off, so that it still held the filter in place, and the little "feet" snapped in so it doesn't flop around. Looks just like a real filter charger. Did I help my engine by allowing it to breath more, or did I hurt it by letting warmer air to be taken in? TIA

Jackal,
I did the same thing to mine. It helped a bit but I doubt that it is as good as an after market kit like Airaid, K&N.
