It could happen to anyone. Defective seals, it can happen, and does. With this many trucks being produced and sold, there are going to be defects. I had a water-pump go out in my last truck at 42,000 miles. Imagine how pist off I was with that. Yours is covered under warrenty at least.

Do you by any chance, happen to use synthetic oil?

Yeah. I started using synthetic around 15,000 miles (when I got the truck).

I got lucky. It wasn't even dripping on the driveway, but I noticed it under the truck when I was checking out the exhaust system. Well, lucky between finding it, and haveing 192 miles left on my 3/36.

Red face 5.4 & Rear Main Seal?

Hi all... got the word back today that the rear main seal needs replacing on my '98 F-150 5.4l (under warranty).

Has anyone else had this happen, or am I a loner?

I had the right rear seal go on my truck last week. Like TurboIROCZ I noticed it when I was installing my new exhaust. Lucky we caught it early, before any major damage. unfortanetly I am out of warranty and had to pay for this one. Remember these trucks aren't indestructable. Things may go wrong.

Thumbs down

Even though they may not be indestructable, I shouldn't be having the dealer put in a new motor at only 6g, and the rear main should start leaking unless you're approaching 80-90g.
Dealers are in it to make $$, and they'll skip on quality where they can just to save $$.
