93 302 to Cobra swap?
Is it even possible to swap my 93 F150's 302 motor for a Cobra engine? Will the engine work with the drivetrain? I need to replace the stock engine because of a blown cylinder and want to go high-performance. Or would it be smarter to buy a crate 302 and put a high-perf cam and lifter, and better cylinder heads? Which route would be cheaper? I've never swapped an engine on any of my trucks and don't know too much about it. Any help or ideas would really be appreciated.
The cobra engine differs from the GTs from these parts:
-slightly different cam profile
-GT40 iron heads
-cobra intake
-1.7rrs
-24lb injectors
-different pullies.
The thing about the cobra engines is that you will pay just for the "cobra" name. You can get a GT40p crate engine for less money and get more power from it.

Thanks MATT90GT,
You've been a big help through all this. One more question: Know where I can get a GT40P crate for a good price? I know there's sites that deliver across the U.S. I'm in Austin, TX. Plus, what extras will I need to buy for the engine? Once again, thanks for the help.

I have bought some stuff from southwest ford ,weatherford, texas. They have a good stock & list several stages of new 302's. Depends on what you wanna spend. You'll probably need an electronic upgrade also. They can probably tell you what you will need. Good luck!

Hey everyone,
Thank you so much for all your help. I'm going in to talk to my mechanic tomorrow. I think we're going to look at both buying a crate 302 and putting goodies on it or getting a barebones block custom assembled. I'll post again with details, hopefully this all works out well. Once again, thanks.

j.deka: Your best bet is to go 351. If you're gonna swap engines, you'll be happier with the slightly more torquey 351, as opposed to the 302. Ford is selling 1997 351W crate engines for $2100. These are brand new engines, absolutely complete, and ready to drop in. I'd go that route. If you absolutely want to go 302... then get the GT-40 302 long block.... it's MEAN
