K&N FIPK Problem?!
Hey Guys and Gals,
I just installed the K&N FIPK, no problems with the intall everything fit well. Followed all directions, disconnected battery etc. etc.
Now for the problem. When accelerating at WOT between 2700 amd 3000 RPMs the engine hesitates for 5-8 seconds. It feels like it won't go or rev any faster then after that it accelerates very slowly. It only happens at WOT whether I accelerate for a stop or from 30, 40, 50 or 60 mph. If I accelerate slowly and smoothly it will not hesitate.
I checked and rechecked the install, retightened all the fittings. Made sure the air temp sensor, mass air sensor, idle air control and pvc hose were connected and tight. Made sure the electrical connections were correct.
Is this something that might disappear with time once the computer re-learns things?
Should I give it more time?
Should I re-set the computer?
Could there be an air leak somewhere?
Has anybody experienced this before?
Any and all input/advice will be appreciated.

One thing to try is clean the MAF sensor with a little bit of Windex on a cotton swab. Wipe it over lightly. The K&N comes preoiled and there may have been a little too much oil on the filter and it has coated the MAF. The system should work just fine "right out of the box". Good Luck, and I am sure some other folks will be along with other suggestions, hopefully one of us is right.
I installed the K&N FIPK on my 2000 no problems at all. It should work fine out of the box. I think you will be pleased with the performance difference. Also it has a awesome sound when you get on it.
hi Goldie
Did you figure out your problem yet?
I see you also have the 4.6V8, did you put the air bypass valve on, or use the rubber hose supplied with the kit?
I put the bypass valve on, and cut all but one inch of the long flange and cut 3/4 of a inch off the small hose, then cut the long hose to fit correctly.
Maybee this will help you out.
Good Luck

Thanks guys. Yes I finaly did figure out what was wrong.
Very simple and embarasing. The MAF sensor was dirty, I think. I really didn't see anything on it but after I cleaned it, it ran perfect.
Don C
I used the rubber hose supplied with the kit.
