Angry Engine stalling & hesitation

For the past few months when starting the engine cold it stalls as soon as it starts, has a slight hesitation when barely depressing the gas pedal and lately getting surges or trans slips. Brought it to a tranny shop and he says it could be the cat could be clogged causing more backpressure. Any ideas.

gsc96,
Surging in a 5 ltr is pretty typical of EGR problem. Start cheap and clean your idle air by-pass that is connected to your throttle boby with some solvents. After changing out the egr, egr position sensor, idle air by-pass, throttle sensor,I finally changed out the egr vacum regulator and it virtually eliminated my surging. Only the dealer had it, around $24 if I remember right. If you plan on keeping your truck i would go ahead and replace most of your sensors since you have so many miles, besides thier not too expensive and thier easy to change. Also run some good good system cleaner through a tank of gas, the benefits are worth the $.

Thanks,
I have already replaced the TPS, HO2, MAF, Water Temp and Air bypass. I wasn't sure if it was the EGR system or cat converter. I do plan on keeping the truck at least another 4-5 years.
