Question V8 - 4.6 or 5.4

A dumb question for you F150 fans - is there any way of determining from the outside if an F150 with the Triton V8 plaque is a 4.6 or a 5.4? Tail pipe size? oil pan? Just curious. Thanks

Question

Look at the size of the differential housing. I think 5.4L vehicles have the bigger 9 3/4" diff. You can noticibly see the 9 3/4" diff. is larger (if you view the vehicle from the rear). Come on 5.4L owners! Is this correct for 97 & 98 too?

If you're sharp, and happen to look at the rear diff. You can spot a 5.4 due to its massive diff. casing. The one on a 4.6 {8.8} is good beefy unit, but the 9.75 diff of a 5.4 looks like somethimg off a 1 ton.

Every 5.4 I have seen has the larger rear axle, the 4.6 axle is easy to spot, its the same axle that is behind the V6
