18-24 mpg

My truck had a sticker in the window dsiplaying 18 city and 24 highway. I've got a 2001 4.6 supercab 4*4 and the absolut best i've gotten with it was about 505 miles to the tank, about 22 mpg , and was running 91 octane.and was driving between 60 and 70mph
I've heard that with the tailgate down it caused more dragg ,,,,,well i had the tailgate down and tried it MANY times with it up and with it down , and i find that i get much better gas millage with the tailgate down ,,,,,maybe it's just me,,,,,

Has anyone ever gotten what the stickers say or clsoe to it??

On a 97 2wd with the 3:08 gears (the freeway gears as they are commonly referred to), my sticker was 16mpg City and 20 mpg Highway. I average 17 mpg over 5 plus years. Freeway mileage is regularly at or above 20 mpg, however the mileage in the winter is significantly lower (friggin cold weather!!!!). Hate to say it but 18 and 24 mpg on the sticker sounds too high, unless the truck is a canadian truck with some metric measurement posted.

If you are getting those numbers out of a 4x4 like that, then you are doing dang well.

I won't comment on the tailgate up/down arguement. I do know that my freeway fuel mileage went up about 1 mpg on the freeway with the cap put on.

Yeah i am in Canada ,, and that sticker says 24 on the highway ,, but as far as i can see not to many people get over the 20 mpg limite ,,i seem to get 22 at times,,so i can't complain i guess,,,,,but you have to take it easy on the pedal ,,,,,not more then 60 to 70mph ,, faster then that , and i can noticably see the difference
And if i'm not mistaken , i think my gear ratio is 3.55

remember that a highway is a main surface street(45-50mph), it is NOT an expressway (55+ mph).

If you use cruise control @ 45-55mph, you should come close to those figures.

That would make more sense ,,cause there's no way in hell that i could get more then 22mpg , cause that was driving the truck at an average speed of 63 to 68 mph,, so pissbly driving slower would get me up to 24mpg
