Post Venting! damn ford. Get this.....

Just got a call from the dealer. We ordered a f150 4wd, supercab with a 5sp and 4.6. Got a call and Ford is refusing to make any more 2000 year f150s. What a bunch of garbage!!! So now I dont know what we are going to do. Either pay more for a 2001, but wait at least 3 months for production to start or something else. We have been waiting 8 weeks now. This sucks! about makes me want to drive to the cheby dealer!!! argh!! sorry to vent, but must share.

Matt90GT:

Have you tried to find one on a lot or are you wanting to only order one? I have seen many of them around.

Matt,
Hang in there bro. It's about time for Ford to start pushing the 2001 models. It does seem a bit early to do it though. I wanted to order one as well and finally got a 2001 Supercrew and couldn't be more happy. Have you looked around to find a truck like the one you wanted to order? I bet you could get a dealer near you to find about the same truck you wanted. I know this doesn't ease the pain but we are talking about the best TRUCK on the planet. Hang in there and good luck..... oh yea don't do the Chevy thing.

Matt,

Ask your dealer to do a search, that's how I got mine. I told them exactly what I wanted when I was in California because they didn't have it on the lot. They searched all the other dealers in the state and came up with what I was looking for (had running boards, didn't ask for that but didn't mind it either). The dealer just had to swap with something of like value and I still paid just over invoice. The truck had never even made it to that dealer either, it was enroute being shipped from the assembly plant. Worth a shot.

Good luck finding a 4x4 XLT with a 5-speed. Do they still make those? Ha Ha...

If I was you, just wait for a 01 model. You get the 240hp version of the 4.6L, as well as some new options obviously. I wouldn't think a 2001 would be much more than a 2000 is. Don't they go up like 2-5% every year?

If a 2000 Truck lists for $25k this year, with a 5% inflation cost for 2001, it would list for 26250. You are already paying big bucks for a new truck, whats 1250 dollars?

Matt90GT,

Sorry to hear about that...that seems odd.

My dealer placed an order on June 1st for a 2000 model F-150...I received the DORA print out confirmation with the vin number. The dealership contacted FORD today and confirmed to me by phone it will arrive July 28-31st.

As JD stated...ask your dealer to do a 'dealer locate' for a 2000 in your region with the options you want. They can swap out one from their lot...I did this when I bought my previous 98 F-150.

Thanks all! I appreciate it.

Well I guess that it is about 3 months and $600 more for the 2001 F150. We have called every dealer in Oregon and they have all done a nation wide search for a 99 or 2000 5sp . None found. So that option is out i guess. i am sure there are a few out there still.

yeah, auto, forget that! not happening. Sorry, I personally cannot stand to drive them. Personal thing.

Well, what do you think. Dealer has the basically same truck but in the F250 SD with the 5.4 5sp, wedgewood blue, grey cloth interior, power everything, off road, cd, supercab 4x4. They are offering it to us at thier cost which is $27K and change. tempting, but more truck than I will ever need. We just haul kids, the dog, a 2000 lb fish and ski boat and mx bikes. Any opionins would be appreciated.

Oh, FYI the 2000 F150s will be made until the 28th of this month with the 2001s starting in August. This is straight from Ford.

I would hit on the F-250. I drive an auto, but there's a lot of complaints on the F-150 manuel in the trans section. Have never seen any on the F-250's but you gotta do what's right for you.

I just ordered a 2001. I was told that they couldn't take orders for 2000's any more and that was on June 29. Just as well for me, I wanted a 2001 anyway

Matt,
Why so focused on a 5sp?? Why not try to find an F-150 just as you want, but w/the auto- would likely be easier to locate. Just think a 250 is a bit much for what you say you are going to use it for. Like Redlariet said and I have heard the same about the manuals- lots of complaints/trouble with them-- plus an auto is capable of towing heavier trailer loads should the time come. Anyway, this is merley my 2 cents worth but hope it gave you something to think about. Oh yeah, smart move on ending that Chevy thought!!

Hey Pat. I have driven the 150s with an auto and it was bad. Engine would rev to 5k all the time before it shifted. You get 1 more gear with the 5sp so you have better economy and power for towing. especially down grades you can downshift and actually have some compression braking.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to go look at the 250 today. See how that works out.

Matt90GT,

I estimate my HP at 260 with my current mods. My rear differential (8.8) was replaced a while ago under warranty. The tranny is now grinding going into 2nd and 4th when shifting above 5000rpm. Other than that the truck is fine. I almost got a 250 SD but it was just a tad over what I wanted to pay.
I was looking at the 6.8 V10 and the 5spd not the 5.4. You will work the 5.4 to death hauling a 6500 lbs truck around. IMHO Wait for the 2001 model. Even if they were to build your 2000 it would be built a few days before the 2001 model and be worth less because it would be 1 yr older. My 4.6 5 spd is faster than the 5.4 automatic. The reason is there is less loss of power to the rear wheels with a stick vs a slush box.

Regards

Jean Marc Chartier

If they're willing to give you a like equipped F250 at a comparable price, I say get it. You're getting a whole lot more vehicle for your money and better resale value if you're the kind who trades up every few years. You caught the dealers at the tail end of the model year. Though Ford will continue to manufacture the 2000 models through the end of this month, they require the dealers to have their orders submitted way before then. As far as the 5 speed goes (don't believe all of what you read here), you've got to be happy. As expensive as vehicles are, I wouldn't accept anything that wasn't EXACTLY as I intended.

I haven't read the posts about the %-speeds but I did have one. Not bad, notchy and rattly but not bad. Well worth the perfomance gains. If I'm not mistaken, the 5-speed in the Super Duties are different than the one in the light duties. My dad has a SD with the PowerStroke and the 6-speed. I've driven it and it is awesome. If I could afford it I would be ther in a heart beat. Go with the SD. It's well worth it. As far as the Chevy thing goes, Thunder does the noise, but Lightning does the work.

When I bought my truck I wanted a 5speed they didn't have any V8's with a 5speed and I didn't want a V6 but I test drove the V6 with 5 speed and didn't like the feel of it so I went with a auto it was hard at first going from a Mustang GT with a 5 speed to a automatic truck.
