Thumbs up Monkeys flew out my butt today.

I never thought it'd happen, but I managed 19 mpg on a trip today.
i was so elated I figured I'd share my good fortune.
It was a short 200 mile stint w/ about 5 miles of 25pmh driving in a National park the rest was cruise controled 68mph.

Finally, I'm seeing the sought after light that is talked about with greater frequency than my own.

Amazing,

I have the same truck but 4.6 and 5spd. and only can manage 17.

I wonder if the 5spd vs. Auto has any difference. Why would the 5.4 get better than the 4.6?

I guess I need to put Amsoil in the rear and transfer case and then maybe I can squeeze out a few more mpg's

I've noticed my mileage goes up considerably if I keep the "R's" around 1800-1900. If you cruise with it at 2000 or above the mileage goes way down.

I just noticed mine went way up on a trip also. I usually get around 14mpg around home, of which about 30% is hwy driving. On a trip to my parents in Michigan of about 400 miles I got about 17.4mpg. I also have a Superchip and am currently using 87 octane because of the gas prices.

Damn guys, I'm VERY jealous. I only get 11.3 city and 13.2 hwy. I'm using synthetic motor and tranny oil. I do have a semi-heavy foot. I love the truck except for the mileage. I'm still gonna change the diff. fluids and check the wheel bearings.

Jupiterak, is that a 4wd? I thought my best of 16.55 on the interstate was bad, whew! Could it be the fuel up there that is causing this?

Thumbs up

By going the speed I did it kept my R's around 17-1800 or so. I didn't pay that strict of attention but I was a bit under 2G.

So far the mods I have done are to simply make it run more efficently. People say that you should be content w/ a truck and it's lack of speed, power and milage. I feel that there isn't at least any reason(besides$$$$$$$) why these simple things can't be done from the factory. They give you what they feel is adequate, and it's up to the consumer to make the improvement.
So that's what I have done.
I'm just glad it 's finally happened. I'm getting about 15 in town and I hope that w/ just 2200 miles they'll improve some more.

A bit too much pedal just a few times and i've seen the mpg drop to 13.

2000Lariat,

It is a 4x4. Also the gas up here is 20% oxygenated, and that's year round. So I know that hinders alittle on mileage and performance. Only a few gas stations have 92 octane, most only have 90 or less.

I've been debating whether I should take it to the dealer and have it looked at. I've already checked the trouble codes and there wasn't any. The truck runs excellent, but even with new spark plugs, synthetic oil, exhaust, filter, Superchip, and tonneau cover . There was NO increase in mileage, but I did get a slight boost in performance. Any other ideas for increasing mileage?

PS I've decided on installing an electric fan, but with only 19k miles and the warranty deal. I'll wait alittle longer until it hits 30k.
