Thumbs down Fram air filter

I bought a Fram air filter part number CA8039 for my 98 F150.
It doesn't fit. The opening is 4". The stock filter is 4.25".
Do these guys know how to make filters or what?
Anybody else hear of a fit problem with Fram's air filters?

Thumbs down Fram

I will never buy a Fram. Their air filters are crap, and they recommend changing them "every time you change your oil", so they are a crooked company.

Hi 352

Used Fram CA 8039 on my 99SC...until i switched to K&N...

That was about a year ago...as i recall the fram fit & sealed ok.
You gave same part # as mine.

When you say it dosent fit...i assume you mean you cant get the housing back together and latch closed? Im not sure what you mean.

Im looking at my old fram (April 00) it has orange rubber sealing gasket with o.d. approx: 8 3/16"...inside dia..4 3/8"...approx..5 5/8" long not counting the black flow cone on filter....

BTW...ive used fram air/oil filters for over 20+ years...never had a problem...of course theres always the first time

Currently using fram on my car....of course the K&N has already paid for itself on my truck...

Good luck....OT

Hi

I meant to also post (above) that here in Nev. conditions are dusty.

That fram last about 6mo.....K&N well...that goes a really long time between cleanings...so i think it has paid for itself.

TIP: I use a slight amount of vaseline on all the sealing edges of the air filter gasket...i think it helps to make a better seal...Same on the K&N....

Good luck...OT

The reason you never have to replace your K&N often is because it doesn't stop much of anything from entering your engine.

I have never had any problems with Fram filters in any of my vehicles. How about trying a Wix filter? I hear those are not bad.

Found this at Frams Web Site. It probably will not help much but the part number looks right.

It is possible that the filter was put in the wrong box at the store, I mean if people are opening boxes to check the part and then possibly put the parts back in the wrong box. I know I always like to inspect the part whenever possible to ensure what is marked on the box is actually what is in the box.

Fram CA8039

For your information...

I have been in contact with the Fram/Autolite Product Quality Product Evaluation Administrator.
Fram has isolated non-conforming air filters on the market.
The issue is being addressed.

The filter I bought was indeed defective.

The ID on the open end of the filter was too small.
It would not fit over the opening on the MAF sensor housing's air inlet.
