I have a 1998 Nascar Truck. According to the insert that came with my truck, It is only rated to pull 2000 lbs. Is this a bunch of bull and if not what is the reason for the 6000 lb drop in towing capacity???

a) you added the 3.73:1 axle or

b) it's bull

 

Does it say this capacity is for bumper type hitch or properly equipped frame receiver? What kind or rear bumper or hitch does that Nascar Ed have? The 3.73 gear should increase towing ability.

It has a regular bumper. The nascar package included a 3/2 drop. I don't think this would make that much of a difference though.

The truck came with 3.73 ratio from the factory. It was part of the Nascar package.

Sounds more like a typographical error (had to see if I could still spell that word).

Why wouldn't a hot truck be able to tow more than my Escort???

 

Tow rating isn't all engine or drivetrain. Even Lightnings have low tow ratings compared to regular F150s. My guess is that the sport suspension is the "weak" link. You got more than just a drop as part of the pkg.
